Re: Post Your Rig: Doom Edition
So what do you tonefreaks use for late night doomin'? I'm thinking of a 1x10 or 1x8 combo, but since doom relies so much on volume, I'm worried the best I'll do late at night is some bluesy licks. Headphones and I don't get along. Any suggestions?

I have had reasonably good experience with my eleven rack... digital isn't so bad... *hides*Krosis wrote:So what do you tonefreaks use for late night doomin'? Looks neat, but way out of my price range.

Re: Post Your Rig: Doom Edition
i just have some shitty crate practice amp that i got for forty dollars. it sounds horrible, but it's fine for working on riffs at home. what i would really like to get sometime soon is an epiphone valve junior. they're really cheap and sound pretty good. and there's tons of mods you can do to them really easily. it's a great platform for that. i know mark from black arts tone works uses a modded one for his main test amp for his pedals. it's pretty quiet at 5 watts. doom relies on volume a lot for a great live impact and all and a good tone on some cooking tubes, but late night bedroom jams don't necessarily need that to have some palatable tone and good times rocking out alone.Krosis wrote:So what do you tonefreaks use for late night doomin'? I've got a Valve Junior combo that I use sometimes if I need to be really, really quiet at night. It's currently in the original combo shell, but a friend of mine is making me a new combo shell so that I can run it with a 12" speaker instead of an 8" speaker. I'm also going to be gutting it and rewiring it but it will still be 5 watts. Surprisingly enough I added a master volume to that, even.Krosis wrote:So what do you tonefreaks use for late night doomin'? The micro terror is also pretty good for quiet doom as long as your dirt is from pedals. I've never tried it with its native 8" speaker though. It helps that cranking the power section doesn't gain you anything since it's solid state.Krosis wrote:Looks neat, but way out of my price range.

The Micro Terror is even too much. I use with with a 1x12 cab because I hated it through the 1x8. I figure I just could get a different small combo to use independently.

Running into this board. I occasionally use the red musket as my main fuzz but since getting the hovercraft I have been using the high gain channel a lot more. Got a whetstone phaser on the way and have been drooling over the new DBA ghost delay! Love the Rv3 and the boss delay is a dd2. Looking to add a 2x12 cab in the future, but live I just put the cab on top of my roadcase and really happy with the result. Cab is loaded with two vinatge 30's and two Fane Medusas!
