that's the first time i've heard the original "Bon Ton Roula," which Ry Cooder and David Lindley have been caning around for years. what a bass lick!

Yeah, I love all that stuff that influenced Lindley and Cooder. Much more than, try as I might, I like Cooder and Lindley themselves.
Clarence Garlow is one of the unheralded greats. I think he's actually from East Texas, he's got that nice syncopated Gulf Coast sound.
