They're around 6 watts from a single 6v6 and are about £550. You can then pick up a Marshall Class 5 on the cheap for a stereo rig and have someone modify it with powerscaling. It works really well on those low wattage designs and if anything adds to the value.

That’s a good shout…only problem is I have a budget of about £300…but I haven’t given up on the Class 5, i can easily add an attenuator to bring the power down then turn it up to break up and kick in some fuzz.

Yeah, the Matamps aren't cheap, and they never come up used. I've seen a couple of the original MIniMat amps from around 2005, but not the later models. The problem with amps that low in wattage, their clean tones often suck balls. The reason why manufacturers make them with such low output power is, as you know, to overdrive the power tubes without being too loud, so they don't pay any attention to how good the clean tones are, focusing solely on the overdrive qualities.

Not just because of Bongripper, though they rule, but in general.

Yeah dude it sucks how much we miss out on over here on the east coast, bongripper is known to tour the mid west and west coast but apparently they haven't been to the east coast in 4 years.

Come to Ireland and you'll soon find it's even worse.

Iommic Pope wrote:Mastodon rule...up until the hunter. I can't do it. It's like listening to the last Baroness album. Something inside me asks in a very sad voice, like a heartbroken toddler "what happened to the wiffs?"

I've listened to the new Baroness album a lot recently, and apart from the absolutely disastrous second CD, it's not that bad. I'd give it a solid 3.5 out of 5. The second disk is just a joke. The writing and lyrics are so cheesy it's unreal. They tried to be philosophical and deep, but it ended up being pretentious and chintzy. It's so soft and chilled that I feel angry after sitting down and listening to it for 40 minutes. It's ironic, good angry music chills me out, but cheesy happy music makes me pissed off. It's just so unbelievable and unrealistic. No ones life is that fucking happy.

To be honest, I shouldn't complain. There's been some great improvements made recently in how many bands come to play for us. I missed Converge late last year due to being poor. There is Red Fang, Torche, Chelsea Wolfe, WHY? (again), Two Gallants, The National, Mastodon, Amanda Palmer, all playing soon or have played already.

That's better then we have coming through int he coming months, nobody considers Washington DC a music city. It doesnt help that all our radio stations are either Top 40, Country, Reggaeton / Latin, or "College" / Alt rock. The closest "Rock / Metal" station is two hours away in baltimore.

The problem with going to see shows is how expensive it is. I can't afford to go to see all those. It would cost €1,000+ to see them all. It's not the tickets that set me back, it's everything else. Train tickets, bus fares, hostels, food, beer, unplanned trips to brothels. It's just all too much.

Whenever I get drunk, which is maybe a few times a year, I never plan it. It just happens, and I resent myself for it instantly.

I'm talking about being drunk, not visiting brothels. We don't have them in Ireland, anyway, and if we did I would have no idea where to look.

Yeah, same. I either feel really awful the next day (can't stop vomiting, no appetite, etc.) or I do something I'll deeply regret.

Exact same boat here.... not that I always regret what i did the night before, sometimes the craziest things can happen.

It was so weird, when i was in schoo still out in central PA, no one EVER came through ( i saw maybe 1 show/year.) for such a huge university, it had dick for a music scene. Now that I live near philly, I have almost too many shows. It's always one of those "well i could go this weekend, but they'll just be back through in another few months." situations.
