i listened to all high on fire's albums, all of them several times over except for the earliest one (because of all the live songs).

this is what i came up with after doing that:

+ on the album "surrounded by thieves" the song "razor hoof" that ends the album (with some gain going on) goes straight into the same drum "riff" opening up for "blessed black wing"'s "devilution"
+ they rarely use a guitar to do chords behind a solo, the bass usually does that alone - but the solo often is comprised of 2 guitars (á la sabbath)
+ the songs that have the album names are chosen for the album name for a reason
+ they have the best war-drums i've ever heard
+ i don't think that's a tremolo in "bastard samurai" - i think he's using his LP and switching the pickups while only sliding on the guitar
+ he slides a lot - preference is in playing on the E-string (which is of course almost always in standard C or drop Bb) - see "snakes for the divine" with chords going from the high E (12th fret) to low F (1st fret), blessed black wings as well.
+ "snakes for the divine" has a bit more shine in the mastering which works better for some songs - in my opinion "surrounded by thieves" is slightly too blanketed - blessed black wings/death is this communion nails it
+ you can just about play any of these songs without changing guitar/retuning with a fuzz, phaser and a simple delay and cover all the guitar parts unless doing the ambience

oh and i voted too

Everything else you said seems spot on but I just want to highlite how good those war drums really are. I know this song may not be everyone's cup of tea from the HoF catalog but it's one of my favs, even with Matt sounding like Lemmy. Listen to the intro with just the guitar riff for a couple bars, it sounds cool but not really heavy or fast. As soon as the drums come in it fucking slays everything and sounds so rad. That drummer is a beast. An awesome beast that makes cool things sound cooler.

So...my kid is now 4months old and I'm realising that I need to change my amp...I need a quieter amp head that can handle peals well, but something that has a nice clean too...I've been looking at the Ampeg GVT5, VHT Special 6, Laney cub, Marshall class 5, Kustom defender 5...any thoughts??

i'd go for the Kustom Defender or the VHT myself, most likely. the Class 5 might be too loud.

Best part about the reissued AoSD is the fact that more of those songs hit the setlist on their last tour.

Love love love 10,000 years!!!!!!!!!!

I saw them play a hometown crowd a couple years ago in Oakland and they played a bunch of songs off AoSD. Started the set off with Baghdad. It was awesome.

Hey dudes, throwing down a bit of spam. Got a Pharaoh up for sale, CUSTOM SURF GREEN finish, like new. It's just an extra I have sitting around, barely even used as I have an early Pharaoh on my main board but I always liked the color so I kept it around. Anyway, I've got some funds to raise so it's time to move it.

Sale thread here or just PM me.

Yea, was gonna say, he didn't have a tremolo on his board when they passed through town either. He hasn't been using his 9 string as much as he did before either; I was disappointed when I saw a white LP instead. I've always wanted to see that First Act in person...

HoF is the bestest. BBW and DITC are my favs I think, though the new one is creeping in there. They're all good. Got to meet Matt last time. That was pretty cool.
