behndy wrote:they're pretty fucking cool. the Mad Dr. Stutter's a hard trem, so nothing new. made well though. the Deathray's a fuzzy/freq filter box. LOADS of fun. i didna like it at first, but when i switched my bass's pups from serial to neck solo'd it got NICE.

Angry Kittens Fighting For The Heart Of A Corgi style nice.

and yeah, they're fuckin' BEAUTIFUL.

the Dr. Stutter's light pulses in beat with the trem rate and the Deathray's is.... interesting. thought it was busted at first. it gets brighter the stronger the signal going into it is. prettttty cooooool.

Does the Game Boy Pocket contribute to your sound at all?

Yeah! I run LSDJ through it, so it has like 8 bit beats and synth lines that loop that I pre-program in. That runs through the yellow box which is a homemade mixer splitter sort of thing. That converts the gameboy to correct line level and then blends it with a mic input and the output of the looper so it can be fed into the vocoder. That means that I can have the vocoder playing blending the synth beats and mixing with either the loop or my guitar playing or my voice or all together. So basically it's like a crazy lo-fi loop filter. It kind of sounds like a more deranged version of a goatkeeper because you get timed pitch variations as well as percussive beats. Sounds a bit like Animal Collective on Merriweather Post Pavillion

lulz. he just DID!

that is a smart setup. i am jealous. i've been wanting to do a section of a pedalboard like that for aWHILE but don't have a noisemaker small enough to make it feasible.

seeeeexxxxxy.

Basically you just have to understand that theoretically the vocoder works as like a filtered gate (i think) that only lets signal through when both inputs have signal going through them. That means that normally you have to sing and the guitar responds to the pitch of your voice. By replacing the vocal input with another input, like a looper or a gameboy or a cd player you can control that section of the pedal and have it mix and respond to your guitar playing. Then the vocoder part adds that weird robot sound.
It's pretty cool
