You know, for the sexual nature of fuzz.

Also, I'd only buy that shirt if the rack was on fire. :)
I quite like eurorack though haha

perhaps a house in the background with an eviction notice would be more appropriate
BetterOffShred wrote:I think most people who frequent here are not in fact eurorack users. A shirt with the logo would be cool. And those belt buckles again. I want one of those
yeah this is true, but you cant escape the discussions about it. I'd for sure buy a shirt with the logo again though

Guess I could muster a half serious reply as to why I'm here.

I'm literally just a mentally ill amateur musician on the internet that wants a place to discuss and learn about gear/music, where the people and their tastes don't make me want to neck.

I don't participate much but I want to contribute what little I can. Honestly a lot of the conversations going on are unrelateable to me, I'm a newer member and the things discussed here I could often not afford/don't need to buy, but it's all good. This forum can be alienating in that regard, not like TGP but in a different way. It's sort of assumed you're a total pleb until you can prove otherwise with a level of participation I'm not at. Some of it may just be those that have been here longest have kind of seen it all before, much like I in my life feel jaded or drifting for various reasons, finding so many things redundant to say. It doesn't mean I don't appreciate your pedalboard, I'm just tired and my communication skills are at an all-time low.

On a positive note, this community has indirectly pushed me to start building. Not for any commercial or IG clout reasons, but because I actually love fuzz. I can't buy 'em all, so getting them in parts at least gives me the illusion that I'm saving some cash. Breadboarding, at least, is relatively cheap. And while I don't expect to revolutionize or even be relevant in the scene, at least this place isn't like, discouraging when it comes to knowing every insane piece of kit out there. Even if it's not gonna end up in my cave. It's inspiring, both from the 'local' builders and regular members, so thanks for that.

It's true, we can be a bit guarded and sarcastic, but those who can hang usually end up being peeps in good standing.

I dunno if it's any consolation, but I totally recognize you, and certainly don't think of you as a pleb, but as a "real deal ILFer." Seriously!

And hey, that's super cool that you're building - and that's totally the right reason to start! I hope you're posting in DIY - now I need to go check and see if you've posted clips...

Lot of great posts here, thoughtful people.

I don't instagram, and I am pretty jaded when it comes to "new" pedals with sexy designs and same old sounds. One thing I know is that if I want to talk to a bunch of people who have tried all the wild and exotic effects out there, then I'm not going to a photo hosting website to do so. This place is an invaluable resource.

I'm here because I like pedals that make weird noises, and this is one of the few places I know where people have listened to my daft recordings of weird noises and not looked at me like I'm strange.

Having said that, I feel a little outside the "group", but that's because most of you have been here way longer than me so no wonder. I don't see it as a problem just how things are.

The good news (maybe) is that I've stopped buying more and more expensive pedals which I don't understand how to use and taken up making pedals instead.

Because they're very easy to get started with, mostly I have made fuzz pedals. Despite the knowledge that there are hundreds of (sometimes only slightly) different fuzz pedals out there already I do fancy trying to make something interesting, even if it's unlikely to be wildly new.

The only thing is, I don't want to make a business out of it, so I'm not putting my hand up as a builder - but might make the odd one or two for someone if asked (I'm not expecting to be asked so it's easy enough to say that ;) )

As for the forum, I think they all go the same way - start strong, get really busy for a while and then people grow older, have kids, find other things that interest them etc. and then they go quiet for a while. That doesn't mean they're over and done with, but it might be a while (if ever) before it gets lively again - the one good thing is that there are still kids putting bands together and everything cycles round and round, so fuzz will rise again ;)

Please don't worry about it, togetherness is nice but it's oddballs, weirdos and people that do their own thing without caring that has always made things interesting [the opposite of boring ;) ] here :)*

I've honestly never felt like part of the in crowd here. Yet ten odd years later, here I be :idk:

Can someone actually explain. In detail. The appeal of a circle jerk?

ever since that McCartney interview, whenever i see the phrase "circle jerk" i think of his story about a few of his and John's friends having a go and one or another of them periodically shouting the name of a sex goddess ("Diana Dors!" "Brigette Bardot!") to which Lennon added "WINSTON CHURCHILL!!!"

i'm gonna second something from above, which is that the people and convo is what has kept me coming back all these years now. i first wound up here cos i was trying to find some info on how to operate my Truly Beautiful Disaster (now, THERE'S a metaphor!), but it's the people i care about more than the info (which is great and very useful, don't get me wrong!). similarly, i've been on a Grateful Dead-related forum since 1997 and we hardly even mention the Dead any more except in specialized threads...it's all about the people now. i've known folks here and on other fora for 10-20 years at that point, and some people i've never met IRL have been as important to me as folks who are right by me.

and how many participators do we need for it to actually be a circle? :poke:
A Perfect Circle (Jerk)? :animal:

On topic: I look at the pedalboard thread daily. I don’t have a lot to comment on usually though. I didn’t get into modular synths or shimmer reverb.

Follow my DOD Death Metal Instagram account, I’m committed to getting more followers than the HM-2 Instagram account. @doddeathmetal I am committed to being an Instagram harsh noise influencer by 2020.

I always feel bad and kind of surprised when I hear these sorts of reactions - I've always thought of ILF as a welcoming place. Sarcastic, endlessly off-topic, but accepting.

I'm not saying it's not welcoming, far from it, just that inevitably there are those who have been here a long time who know each other better than they know me.

It's not a criticism, I'd say it's the opposite, that a good forum becomes a nice comfortable place to be once you settle in :)

Oh, I getcha. Yeah, it's true. We have a fair number of old farts around here. Not me, of course. Other people.
