I'm going to do it. I have two fully written pieces that I just need to edit. Why not? Thanks for the kick.PeteeBee wrote:I know it's not easy, but you should write! I found in insanely inspiring how Mr. Doomdad Rigs (now Cathartic Conferences) wrote a horror novel and published it, and I found the book totally enjoyable. Wish I could find the link for it and my copy is gone. I never manage to make my hobby goals happen, but it's really awesome when other people do and it is worth taking steps towards, imo.Jwar wrote:Yea it does! I've had similar stuff on writing as well. Bunch of dicks.I miss writing. Sigh.

This! Whiskeytown was up there with Uncle Tupelo which for those that don't know later split into Son Volt and Wilco. Ryan Adams has become somewhat of a pretentious dick though, he is now known to sometimes throw a fit in the middle of a show and walk off stage. I haven't listened to anything he's done in ages but Whiskeytown was influential to a lot of up and coming musicians at the time. I do have friends that are endorsed by pedal makers, one of my friends is endorsed by Dwarfcraft, they don't charge you for that from what I know, anyone trying to do that seems scammy to me, sounds like the poetry thing and I've been down that road!Ugly Nora wrote:He also fronted Whiskeytown which I believe was one of the more important alt country bands back in the 90s. I'm no alt country expert though.

Re: Ryan Adams and other band endorsements/sig pedals
Sometimes the rational is kind of born out of external interest from a pedal that was created with a band or musician. The FuzzThrone was created for Jon in Conan and once I put that out there lots of people wanted to buy one. It became a pseudo-siganture pedal because its just associated with Conan. I was planning on doing an actual sig. model but the plans fell through for manufacturing reasons rather than anything else. Still might do a simplified version that is smaller ect but at the moment its still on the shelf.
Slomatics sig stuff came about because I was doing a lot of work with Dave and Chris. We had done like 5-10 unique pedal designs and eventually the idea of putting secondary effects into a nice fuzz pedal was born. Viola a sig pedal that I only maybe built 10-15 of and have not offered again.
The Tyrant started with a set of 4 that Adam actually etched for me. After we built them, Todd wanted to do a run to sell because there was tons of interest.
So there is definitely a financial interest or stake in most of the sig. models. This is true for mass marketed stuff or even niche genre target stuff like most of what Dunwich and many small builders are doing. I also think its a lot of mutual interest between the builder(s) and the artist. I never sought out the idea of collab. initially but it sort of grew organically after working with bands and musicians.
