We do have a MTB thread, which I'm in on, but I'm talking lime a straight up "breaux is that a Chris King bottom bracket?!?" type discussion thread. I don't necessarily think everyone in the bike thread wants to talk spokes with me.
Now I'm off to make three "Shoes to appease hbomb" threads to create a balance!
Edit: I just want to nerd out with some homies on bike components on the internet. All the bike forums have pretty awful communities and the web doesn't get much better than ILF.

haha I think about this all the time. Also, working for colleges and universities where a majority of my colleagues lay claim to having extreme left political views...but live in great neighborhoods, and collect around six figures. Even as outside weirdos, we still come together based on our consumption habits, not necessarily on ideologies. Which is why we have so much fun.

Yup... I've been an ivory tower anarchist for my whole intellectual life, more or less. Property is theft but I sure do love buying shit. Crisis of character. etc.

Hard to overstate this. I am a Marxist scholar who took his daughter out in a Sofia the First Halloween costume.

I dunno. Half the time I obsess over gear that I eventually talk myself out of once I have the scratch, or else I find something that inevitably is more appealing (cheaper/older amp, cheaper pedal with less features, slightly damaged goods w/ factory warranties, etc.), which is the gear equivalent of always checking the dollar bin at the record store or at the place that sells the shirts n' pants or the grocery store clearance rack (better than you'd think - too many grocery stores = eggs for everyone). And after joining this site I cut most of my wants in favor of possible DIY builds and/or pre-orders for far cooler gear (CT5/IE), which is still better than pining for whatever else I can think of from a bigger manufacturer that isn't being flipped or ripped apart in the interim. But Best Offer buttons are probably my biggest weakness, along with sellers who post in the middle of the night and/or early in the morning (I don't drink coffee anymore), which probably accounts for a majority of everything I have around (he was poor, but he was honest).

Oh, hey! Same here! ILF is my secret guilty pleasure bc I have this dichotomy of loving pedals and hating capitalism/civilization/domestication. None of my friends understand, I hate authority but I love sounds.

I think part of being a functional human being is recognizing that there are many facets to thought and that if you're 110% ethically coherent in everything you say and do you're probably really fucking boring.

Straight-ticket voting means you're not trying.
At least most pedals we obsess over here aren't built by tiny brown hands in a dim warehouse.

That and you'd never have any time to enjoy yourself. There has to be a little self-forgiveness and indulgence in lifeāit'd be impossible otherwise.

Not to go all wingnut, but this is why I am not vegan; I happen to do veganism most of the time. Turns out nuance is more interesting.
