District 9 isn't really a space movie, but there are aliens involved. Same with Attack The Block.
i love district 9.

hence comments on big hopes for elysium over in the overblown movie thread. wanted to go see that today but haven't made it happen yet...

From what I hear, Elysium doesn't match up to D9 in terms of vision, but is crazy over-the-top-action to the max. So I guess it depends what you go for.

Fuck yes! I keep waiting for the Critters movies to show up on Netflix, watched them sooo much when I was little.
I dug Screamers, but it's been so long I can't remember if it was really that great or I was just excited about the one pair of tits in that movie.
The Thing has an alien but it's shot in Antarctica, I guess the Blob and a slew of other movies fall into that Aliens on Earth category.
Serenity, Firefly, Farscape, Red Dwarf? (Never watched it but I've seen it pop up on Netflix). Masters of the Universe (Yeah, yeah, I wanted to be He-Man when I was 4). That's all I can really think of right now.

i have a copy of the thing (the original), awesome flick. antarctica in that almost seems like outer space...
fuck man i forgot, at a play i did sound for a couple months ago one of the producers somehow figured i'd like firefly & gave me a copy on blueray & i don't have anything that plays blueray, i gave it away on here & bought it on dvd & still haven't watched it yet, forgot all about it! hell yeah!
farscape & red dwarf i'll have to look up...
& i was totally a he-man junkie as a little kid. he-man, thunderkats, transformers...

Red Dwarf's one of the best comedy series ever made. It has a great outer space feel to it too!

farscape was good stuff. But id just watch every sci-fi original series. I love that they have their little community of actors that they use in all their shows.
But does anime count? All the best space stuff is anime.

there's a big article on blomkamp in the latest issue of wired. it's in the works, but just 18 pages of scheming at the moment. he has other projects after elysium before he'll get to district 10. sucks, cause i can't wait for that...
also the only anime i've ever been into is akira. it's an awesome flick, i'm sure there's lots of other good ones out there, just not really my cup-o-tea.

Talk anime to me

I like the stuff, but I find the wealth of it overwhelming.
