Definitely not mischaracterizing half the nation...never did I say half the country, or all Romney voters, or non-Obama voters--I'm not an idiot. I know they're not anywhere near 50%, or even 30%.
I was speaking very specifically, about those loudmouth no-nothing racist hatemongers who've been making their presence so clear for the last year. Whatever their numbers may be.
They described themselves as the majority opinion. They, it turned out, were wrong about that. And they're idiots. I'm not talking about Romney voters, not half the country, not conservatives...I'm talking about those of them who are hateful idiots.

and conversely, see how the far-left cities can cope with their social dysfunction without the rest of the country to bail them out.
actually, i think the optimum solution would be to spin off the metropoli--New York, Boston, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, LA, etc.--into independent city-states so they'd have to function without the support of the rest of their states. this would end the tyranny of the urbanites and allow the rest of the country to live in peace.

I don't know where it's like where you live, but there are a
lot of people on some sort of welfare in rural Kentucky. They aren't the ones supporting urbanites.
And most states that are the most conservative also take the most from the federal government. Democratic states take the least. Just a fun fact.

The only far left in the USA lives in the fantasies of Fox news. Obama is way too far right for my tastes.
And if you ever look at a map of social dysfunction -- pick your metric: teen pregnancy, STDs, domestic violence, childhood mortality... -- you might be surprised where the worst areas are. The social safety net goes from the coastal cities to the middle and south (and Alaska), not the other way round.
It is good to see the increasing voter turnout in your country though -- I think about 50 people showed up to vote nationwide in the last general election in Canada
