You want nortt. Someone else suggested it and it's seriously the best for those qualities. Amazing super dark depressing shit. I would start with the album gudsforladt, but any of it will do. I'm on tour and on my phone, so I can't really post a YouTube link, but don't waste any more time. Go check it out.

You should listen to:

Koyanisquatsi soundtrack - Phillip Glass - Glass's take on Gregorian Chants, the film is an art film
Suspiria Soundtrack - Goblin - Italian band that did the soundtrack for Night of the living dead
Udu Wudu - Magma - A crazy French band, the B-side is in a language created by the singer that is the language of a Utopian planet
Omen From the Sea - Fall of the Idols - Dark stoner metal
Tombstones - Tombstones - Dark stoner metal from Finalnd
The Sorcerer soundtrack - Tangerine Dream - pseudo psychedelic music for a horror film
Voices of Ancient Children - George Crumb - 21st century classic music, a piece about the souls of dead ancient children
Mussorgsky - Songs and Dances of Death - My favorite composer, Russian classical music, I think the title says it all

oh, hell, i should have thought of Magma.

the motivation for stopping downloading live concert recordings was when i looked up one day and realized i had SEVEN MAGMA BOOTLEGS. "OK, this shit is getting out of hand."

Not metal; but considering it was used in The Shining, which is dark and cold movie; it's the "darkest coldest music I can think of....

for dark and cold, try Penderecki's Auschwitz Oratorio. or Threnody For The Victims of Hiroshima.

Not metal at all, but the darkest coldest music in my collection is the anthology Very Little Fun - by Brighter Death Now. It can really creep me out sometimes.
