What if there was some new strain of ebola where instead of vomiting black stuff that used to be your organs, you and everyone you've infected puke up nuclear explosions. If you kill yourself before the disease progresses to this stage though, y'know, it's no problem. You can be safely disposed of in a lead coffin. Maybe shot into the sun or somethin'. That would be cool.

So basically, if your little community has Chernobola it's really better for the world if you just poison the water supply and kill everyone before a crisis occurs.
You even get an excuse to recite famous Woody lines like "somebody's poisoned the waterhooooolleeee!"

In the above scenario poisoning your own water supply is the best choice.

Also in the event that you are some type of super human species and you want to eliminate the regular humans that can't digest your poison.

Or say your are running from an invasion (like in red dawn) poisoning your own water may help you kill your enemies.

As a point of interest, if ingested in the lungs and not the stomach water itself is poison.
