It's less scary when I'm not stoned.

Do all rabbits have faces that look like cat faces or is that photoshopped?

Go to a solicitor and ask them what can be done. I'm far from a lawyer but I'm willing to bet not much.

In America "solicitor" is what we call a guy who frequents prostitutes.

I decided to apply for my conceal and carry. Not specifically because of this one incident, but because I've been thinking about it a long time before that. This just got me thinking about it again. I spoke with a LOT of people about this, including my shrink who surprisingly is very pro gun and conceal and carry. I probably won't be one of those people who carry everywhere I go, and to be honest, I'm not sure if I even will carry at all. I think the class however will do me some good. It will help me gain new respect for the guns I already own. I'm also thinking about picking up martial arts again. It won't help me if someone pulls a weapon on me from a distance, but it will make me feel more confident. That's really what I believe my issue was. My confidence in my ability to protect my family was challenged and it scared me. I feel better about the whole thing now, and am glad it played out the way it did (meaning no one actually got hurt). If I could go back, I probably still wouldn't have let that bitch in front of me, but I certainly wouldn't have talked to her.

Thanks for all the input on this one guys!

Not to be a dick but...

Having a gun is going to make you feel like a big man then. Nevermind speaking through action or (better yet) inaction, if you're packin', your Johnson feels twice as heavy. Hiding behind a piece just seems cowardly.

Just seems like poor reasoning to me is all. That's the impression I got from your post, that you're really not committed to the idea of shooting someone, just the idea of instilling fear. That's seems like you'll just end up being the one threatening someone's family next time.

IDK, maybe I'm slightly biased(don't think people shouldn't have guns, just think most of them don't need them), but I think maybe you should think it over a little more. Nothing wrong with going through safety courses and whatnot in the meantime, but when you walk out your door with a gun you're stepping over the point of no return.

I already own guns. Did you read my post? I don't think having a gun makes you feel like a "big" man at all. At least it doesn't have that affect on me. It's about self defense. Why should I be left helpless against some fucking thug that decides to pull a piece on me? Doesn't make much sense to me. I guess being passive about the whole thing sounds easy for anyone that wasn't in my situation.

Does that go for the womenfolk too?

Because that would be a ridiculously convenient sexual accessory.

I totally agree that there's no right answer and people should strive for some middle ground and I'm sure I read too much into the word "confidence" in jwar's previous post. There's two ways to look at it, putting yourself into the circumstances, and completely removing yourself. I look at it from the latter. jwar is taking the former, naturally we're going to disagree and there's no problem with that. I'm just trying to play devil's advocate not trying to convince anybody, just discuss. So in the immortal words of Cheri Oteri, "SIMMA' DOWN NAOW!"

It just seems like there is very little rational circumstance where having a gun will help if someone is REALLY going to shoot you. Do you think this dumb bitch with the car was going to go to her trunk and pull a gun on you for a spot in line? Really? Think about it one more time, ask yourself, "Am I being the least bit paranoid?" A lot of people are stupid and have big mouths. Some people are desperate, they are the one's who will hold a gun up to you, and at that point it's already too late. My hope/assumption is you are at least taking all precautions with the guns you have to avoid any accidents, otherwise you're not helping your cause of protecting your family from guns by inviting them into your home.

Yes I believe she was going to pull a gun on me. I have a had gun put in my face before this incident and it's not a very comfortable situation. The area of the city I was in at the time was not a bad one because it's on the Kansas side, but I'm from Kansas City, MO. The crime rate is ridiculous there just like most big cities. I do believe there are a LOT of irrational people out there that would put a bullet in my head for a lot less. I mean watch the news and that much is clear without saying it. Would a gun in my hand have made the situation any better? No. Absolutely not. I don't hold any beliefs that guns are the end all to conflict. I am the last person to want to do harm to another human being. That is why I went to EMS and Fire school. I want to help my fellow man. Do I think I could pull the gun when my life or a member of my family's is threatened? Absolutely. I have to defend them. I would give my life to protect them. They are my everything.

I have owned a gun for over 10 years and know how to use it. I respect them and would never use them stupidly. I plan on also educating my two children about guns.

I can respect that. I just believe, in a political discussion, personal experience has no bearing for any argument.

Then again, this thread was started about what you should/should have done, so I suppose it is relevant. I guess, I'm not saying you specifically don't need to carry a gun around with you. I just think less people need to than claim they need to.

That's the problem with these sorts of threads, they tend to stray from the original topic until you have two people arguing two totally separate points. A couple pages down we'll be talking about the best recipe for cheesecake. OMG I WANT CHEESECAKE!!!!
