I just bought a bigger one of these for cheap at a pawn shop to use while visiting family for thanksgiving. For a $30 amp, the thing was fun as hell!
Boomy as hell, dirty clipping on anything with volume. No such thing as a clean tone. And speaker breakup almost all day.

Good memories, she rests in Goodwill now.
Considering their reputation there are a lot of 80s Gorillas alive and kicking. Couldn't have been too bad. My first bass amp was a GB-30 with Funk Bass (tm).

My first amp was also a gorilla. It was awful. Eventually we took all of the hardware from it to use for other projects.

I'm sure there will be nostalgia for them someday, and they'll cost what the Silvertones and Teisco stuff costs now.

But, yes. They were that bad.

They just generally didn't die (or get pushed hard enough *to* die)

Sure somebody out there uses *every* piece of gear ever made in some professional capacity, not that I have any desire to listen to EoDM.

Peavey Stereo Chorus 400 for $150: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Peavey ... 1705880.gc. Poor man's JC-120 anyone?

Big amp loud and swirly
Cheap enough to hire a roadie or two
Lord this combo weighs so much
I'm wearin' a truss to chicken pick for you

Could be a good deal if you use ship to store...

Nice. Stereo loop on two TRS jacks, so if you can deal with unbalanced cabling, this can work as a cheap stereo poweramp and cabinet setup.

Includes FS as well.

GC's shipping ain't bad generally even if you don't ship to store, they get rates that are obscene.

That said, that was the era of Peavey that gives me nightmares. I had its non-chorus brother (Reknown) and.....god, it sounded like shit.

Enough volume to wake the dead but...I'd wish I was dead while playing it.

It'd be better for synth than guitar realistically, although it's far less than full range - not sure how much you want or need that out of your synth (or what you're gunning for there).

It just wasn't hot as a guitar amp (but I don't like the voicing on the Scorpion speakers, never have) and am cleanly in the BF-Fender-type tonestack camp.
