congratz on the semaphore! let me know how you like it compared to the GK (that was you wasn't it?)
On the topic of the SG classic with the horribly average action: i've adjusted the truss rod and bridge and everything, from trying the standard Gibson values on their website to just going by feel -
basically CAN'T get it as low as I want it (and all i'm asking is lower than my old shit guitar from the 80's that i haven't even adjusted) - without getting a buzz that kills the note too early/kills sustain. certain spots don't allow the note to ring at all.
I was like a month too late to buy a Gibson SG standard with P90's, somehow they all dropped them around february or something. the best price i could find was 900€
on the topic of PLEK machines - this one is supposed to have been PLEK'd, which I made sure it had been before i bought it. Thinking of taking it to some dudes around the corner for a real PLEK-job, but that'll cost me 300$..
300 dollars is a bit much for a fret job, unless youre gettng whole refret. I just did a fretjob for a friend for 5 dollars...BUt full price would be more like 120 depending on severity. I know ill get tons of shit for this, but FUCK Gibson. that company is dead to me. Complete overpriced shit these days, they dont even use real wood on the fingerboards anymore because they got caught using illegal sources. frets are shit, construction is OK, made mostly by giant computer controlled machines out of B stock wood and they still cost over 5 grand. Total bull. Ill never buy another NEW gibson.
SGs are notorious for having tuning stability issues. Anything below standard just gets worse. Ive worked on a few from the early 60s all the way up to the early 2000's and theyre all like that. THe old ones were a tiny bit better though. THe design just isnt that great, which is a shame because they look so badass!
ANd daniel, I have one pleked Gibson and its pretty well done. Id hope so considering a computer did all the work!

T'would have been, and agreed! Richmonds a cool place, rather laid back compared to the northern area of the state. I kinda miss hanging out down there as well. Still got come crusty friends down there I haven't talked to in ages.
