Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I'm gonna say one more thing about this and then I'm gonna shut up. If its so hard to track Nicks posts because this forum moves too fast, then how are they problematic? If he was truly spamming, and people weren't that interested, wouldnt he post in a slower moving thread. There are literally over 20 conversations happening here, it's not like all that info can be absorbed, and nicks posts not absorbed enough to be considered advertising.
I'm not trying to be hostile, I'm just trying to figure out how this is all of a sudden a huge deal.

Personally I would expect nothing but hostility from a radiated beer grown sentient by the ill will of a cosmic being
It's a problem in this case because it makes his stuff hard to read about and consequently buy, and because the god Tom Dalton deemed it so.

Not you man. You have been very nice in how you are approaching this. But suggestions to start our own forum. Posting pics of a chopped up dick. All cap posts. Direct insulting posts. Etc.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
i really have enjoyed this forum. i don't post a ton on the internet in general, so i haven't made a huge splash on ILF as a whole, but i try to read the rest of the forum besides just this thread and contribute here and there. honestly, i wish more of the folks who moved over here would do that too, just because it would make the forum in general cooler and this thread would be more manageable. this isn't like harmony central. it's just a cooler more like minded type of forum and i don't think there's a need for DR folks to feel like outsiders here. that's just my two cents. also, i really enjoy nick's contributions and don't feel that most of them are very spammy. so i support him. again, the forum at large would benefit from his contributions, but whatever, people do what they will.
the drama bums me out.
i was going to say something else on a completely different topic but now i forgot what it was.
anyway, leaving in a few minutes to go see graves at sea and aldebaran. pretty stoked.

If I can, I'm gonna see Elder and Floor this weekend. Good times, heavy toanz. Oh, and I got tix to Hopscotch... where Sleep will be co-headlining.
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

now STFU or GTFO, and let Nick do as he wishes.
You are not familiar with the ways of not walking into someone else's living room and acting like you own the place.
I'm thrilled that there's a Doom Room here, but I take exception to that attitude.

You are not familiar with the ways of this is not your living room, or the ways of get the fuck out if you don't like ILF's two rules.
Dumb bickering and hostility makes me pretend hostile, and for-real bummed out.
ILF is about not being an asshole. The dickering and bickering doesn't fit here.
I never make demands, but really, stop debating trivial stuff and get this thread back on track.
There are almost no rules on ILF, but the Doom Room doesn't run ILF. It's TOTALLY welcome here, but it's one corner of a living room that you don't own.
ILF i think it is time for a deep breath and a group hug.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Haha, I retracted most of that, cause I just. want. everyone to move on, and I don't like playing the moderator role. But awh, I still stand by it.
And yes, ILF is about LOVE and being cool to each other. I want it to be possible for a forum to be barely moderated, but also not full of people being dicks to each other. Hope everyone's down with that plan.

Mutilated penis pics and direct insults are never ok
I think most of the all caps posts are a written form of this kind of humor:http://www.hulu.com/watch/276361
The "make your own forum" thing's really for the few individuals in this thread who treat the doom-room like its own island nation (kinda like claiming you live in a one room studio apartment that happens to be in your parent's house).
And really, I kinda think everything has been said about this that can be said. So,

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I think the problems here are largely caused by mistaken perceptions.
The DR is far from a clique. I had barely started posting in the HC DR and I feel I was welcomed there with open arms and encouragement. It is and was simply a group of like minded people who enjoy similar music and gear and like to have a mostly BS free place to discuss it. A LOT.
I do post on a lot of the rest of the forum but right now using the active threads we have "the what are you eating for LUNCH thread" I'll pass, "PGS - Demo it Live" sounds interesting, will take a look at that "What is your secret superpower?" interesting, but I'll pass, "The Future of Music - A Discussion" Been in there, Muse =/= Pink Floyd. Pass, "The Video Game thread" Pass. and then the Doom Room wherein I am pretty much garunteed to find cool music and interesting gear.
Dunwich (Nick) is not on the level with many of the other builders here. It's a matter of volume. I am sure down the road he would love to build it to that level and I am fully confident that he will. But right now he's got school, employment, a couple amo builds and several forums he likes to post on. AFAIK his stuff is not available to purchase unless you contact him directly at which time he will build it for you when he gets to it. He is extremely enthusiastic about what he is doing and likes to show it off, so I can see where the casual observer would think he's trying to sell all this stuff. Why else would someone put that much time and effort into it? (oh i dunno, passion maybe?) most of what he is posting is not for sale and the SPAM post that semi ignited this concerned gear that he did not build. yeah it maybe should have gone into the bst but those particular items are relevant to the tones the DR crowd are after. Also I think he views people in here as friends and would like his gear to go to good homes. Whats so damn terrible about that.
Perhaps Nick has reached critical mass with Dunwich and it IS time for a sharktank, and a hired hand or two to make some of his stuff more available. Or maybe he wants to wait till he is ready and do it right when the time is right for him. His call.
I think the greatest tragedy here would be for people to run this off because they are not tracking what is going on in here. there are really great people who came here when HC killed itself and can and will contribute to the overall community.
Just give it some time, and maybe take a bit of time to read through what is being said in here before rushing to judgement.
