can anyone recommend a good 5 string bass? my bassist is looking for a new bass, he wanted an Ibanez, but after playing it he realised its better for modern metal rather than what we play...i was thinking those music man basses are pretty good.

I've always been a huge fan of Meddle and Obscured by Clouds.

Speaking of ZZ Top I don't think I like this song. I definitely don't like Billy's rapper delivery. Dusty's still the secret weapon in the singing department. But some of these TONES man.

Also, Pink Floyd is MY SHIT. I like Piper and Animals best. Saucerful and Obscured By Clouds are right up there too.

Excuse me. I KNOW I don't like that new ZZ Top song. Damn, that was depressing. Still good tones though.
Here's another one to cleanse the pallette

My only recommendation for a five string bass is to get one with one less string on it.

G&L L-2500 Tribute -
http://www.thomann.de/pt/gl_tribute_l_2500_blb_mn.htm - for sure then.
the Ibanez ATK's are also great.

also this, from experience. i'd recommend a 4 string bass tuned to BEAD instead.

i told him already...told him to get a thunderbird or a rickenbacker...or even a nice looking Fender Jag bass...but no, they all have 4 strings and he likes his 5 strings. What can i say, his a prog rocker.
but between you guys and me...musically he leaves me for dead...i'm lucky i'm the one coming up with the riffs, otherwise i'd be kicked out of my own band!

kinda sad...but the moment i discovered Lynard Skynard was at the end of the Devils Rejects (rob zombie film) when they're getting shot down with Free Bird playing through out that ending scene...

i'd go for that G&L then, really. those are top-notch basses. i'd ideally like to get two of them, used, to use with different tunings.
