I think I am going to fix up this old mind warp and add CV to it for the speed control. Might make it a little better and worth having on a pedal board (or just put it in a wah enclosure?). I'll probably demo/record something with the DLFO and decide it's fate then...haha.

Build quality (including that 3 screws stuff  ) seems to go hand in hand with earlier comments about how obscure and needlessly strange the website/ordering is. Feels like a pedal company for 10 chosen ones, but I'll be god-darned if I wouldn't stab your dad for a shot of a KK.

Ya know, I mever noticed that was envelope controlled. There ya go. However they definitely sound different. The way the Clarinot modulates seems more predictable, almost cleaner/more symmetrical in the way the pitch shifts.

Yea, I totally agree with that; it sounds way more predictable. I always thought the clarinot was a vibrato for some reason (but I might be getting mixed up in my head). Nothing against midfi and I don't know if things have changed more recently, but I did have a pedal with a loose board wrapped in electrical tape, E13 style. It may have been old, a prototype, or whatever (because a ton of pedals when I got into this stuff were like that). I got it used too, so who knows? Everybody has different takes on quality, I guess.

Honestly, as I get more into building, I would probably just try to bend a pt2399 in my own way in the future, you know?

Yeah I've gotta add that the kk does those melting tape and mechanical failure sounds which puts it in another league from the clarinot which I also love.

Yea, the Kompakt Kassette is really a keeper as is the Memory Loss. They really are a blast! IC Water too. Going to go make something for the DLFO now (after I cut some wood and glue it)...

I think, to me, as I have probably said before is that Seppuku stuff is kind of inspirational in terms of just building stuff. Rhys takes completely mundane parts and makes some interesting stuff. It makes me want to build and experiment.

Yeah, I mean, I've only heard demos, but I agree. If there was literally one other pedal that did those crying technology / depressed boombox left out in the rain sounds, I wouldn't waste as much time working out how to get my hands on one!

So the mindwarp I got back was all fuzzy and distorted sounding. I thought it was the op-amp, but, since the the op amp was soldered in, I thought I would try to replace the PT2399 chip first because it was in a socket. Sucess...it actually has more depth than it used to and it gets into some gristleizer territory (in terms of how the LFO behaves). I don't know if underclocking (or whatever bend is going on) eventually low voltages or burns the chip, but it is worth a try on Seppuku stuff. The chips are $5 and probably worth it to have a few sit around just in case anyway (seeing as how common they are in pedals these days). So glad it was easy to fix though. I guess more parts for other builds.

Next to add exp for the LFO? Or Warp?

Hmmm, that's pretty interesting that that was the problem. I'm sort of curious what the KK and Memory Loss would sound like if I replaced the chip

I kind of wonder if an unregulated power supply was used on this mind warp sometime in the past and it got some kind of surge or something and it eventually just ate itself. I always used it with a voodoo labs, but who knows before?

Maybe it is just the nature of the game, like in the old days of over clocking the hell out of an AMD or something?

But it really has a quicker ramp and higher peak now. But isn't the PT2399 a digital emulation of BBDs? Is there a variance in them? Maybe? I dunno. The new chip does look different (it says PT2399s and the old just says PT2399). Are they all made in the same factory or are they licenced to whoever wants to make them? So many questions!

Honestly, I wouldn't mess with it unless something was wrong though. No need to go and possibly break something.

There can be noticeable variances with the pt2399 for sure.
