I love the guitar sounds, but the longer I listened to the albums, I started really hating them because the drummer was just the goddamn worst. Seeing how Scholz was such a circuit wizard, he really could have been the first to just kill his drummer in a roadside ditch and then replace him with a homemade rhythm machine.

Gigs:
Obvious encores are lame
Dudes who lay down to mess with delay pedals and set them to self oscillation are pretentious
Using half and full stacks in small venues is dumb (unless not PAs provided)

Well, I guess I kneel more than I lay down. Oh, and now I've got a momentary footswitch, so I can even do it standing up. What a time to be alive and pretentious!

Being pretentious is the best, it's so liberating.

it is not obscene to say "its like making love to an Asian lady" when asked how the donuts are.

I'm willing to let that one slide as long as you never, ever qualify what that is supposed to mean

Zen Arcade is a really good album, but they should've spent more time and money in the studio.

I don't know if this is controversial or not, but that sorta describes the bulk of Hüsker Dü's recorded output.

certainly the SST stuff. i adore Hüsker Dü, but i cannot listen to New Day Rising because the production is so terrible...even the Everything Falls Apart stuff sounds better.

Their later albums certainly sound better, but they got poppier and poppier as time went along.

I was exactly the right age (and was coming from a different musical direction) that I actually got into Sugar first as those albums were coming out. Going back to the Dü albums after that was like switching over from tapes to wax cylinders.
