Ian defined it as "an Outward on steroids" so I'm guessing some sort of delay/sampler with further tweaking options

Teej was talking about redoing/updating the Outward a while back. This is the end result, perhaps?

Also, I've got delays, I've got drones, I've got delays that can drone, so why, exactly, do I feel like I *need* the Drone Rainger?

I was thinking the same thing. It's cool and all, but I've already got most of those bases covered and then some. It seems a cool device but I would've preferred a larger enclosure in favour of larger knobs for easier tweaking. Also, maybe it's just me (and I do appreciate the work builders out in and think they should be paid for it) but isn't the price a bit high?

I am intrigued, what exactly am I looking at?
The ones with the beautiful big screens look like the Polyexpressive polyMORPH and Digit....

:snax:

https://www.polyeffects.com
The Morph is a mono, analog, overdrive, compressor, filter etc thing with digital control and ability to draw envelopes and maybe other stuff.

The Digit is a 4 in/4 out delay with ability to draw envelopes and maybe other stuff.

I think both are supposed to be $350 but they aren't ready yet.

I have no problem with them using her designs as they are in the public space, I just don't like that Arturia is playing it off like it's a collaboration; I wouldn't have had any issues at all had they just said they incorporated some modes from Mutable Plaits :idk:
This is kind of weird.

It's nice that they reached out, but at the same time it's odd to involve someone only at arm's length. To me it would've been better to involve her even less, rather than focus-testing her as she puts it.
That is very weird, but it at least clears things up. She has the same issues with the "Mutable collab" branding as I do, but she doesn't want that to stop people from buying it, just doesn't want to be associated with it since she had no involvement in design choices.

The Yellow Spiral Drive is amazing BTW. Mr. Cram is killing it.

Had to play at a few booths yesterday but today I'll do a lot more testing.

Here's some more on the Buchla Red Panel.

https://www.gearnews.com/namm-2019-buch ... duct-line/
Last year Catalyst Audio had 6 modules ready to go. In the Red Panel series they now have 9. There’s the 106 (Six Channel Mixer), the 110 Quad Voltage Controlled Gate, the 156 Control Voltage Processor, the 156 (modern version), the 158 Dual Channel Oscillator, the 180 Dual Attack Generator, the 112 Touch Controlled Voltage Source, the 190 Dual Reverberator and the 193 (Combination of 194 and 191) Dual LoPass / Bandpass Filters. They are also releasing a 6U 84HP case to put it all in.

The question we all want answered though is what does “affordable” mean to Buchla. Catalyst Audio prices ranged from $179 for the 156 modern up to $449 for the 158 dual oscillator which are regular Eurorack prices.

In the video below Todd Barton remarks how the Red Panel line is not really “Buchla”, it’s sponsored by them but is not up to Buchla Associates standards. He also says that Red Panel refers to a legendary panel that was dipped in LSD that they used to lick and then find themselves patching for days.

This feels like a Buchla endorsement of Catalyst Audio products which must be an awesome validation for Dave’s work.

These modules should be available in the Spring but there’s no official pricing.

Woke up and was thinking about this some more. It's kind of like when two people hang out a few times and one person is really into the other and begins telling people they're dating. Then person #2 tells everyone they're not, but doesn't want to hurt person #1's feelings. There's no real villain, but that doesn't make it any less awkward. That seems fitting, since it's called the MicroFreak.

To quote everyone's favorite raptordad:
Custom enclosure, bullshit difficult routing, pretty unique circuit, handbuilt in the "not wave soldered in china and screwed together somewhere in the States" way... Reasonable I'd say.

Well put. I guess what I should've said is "I personally don't need/want it enough to want to pay that amount of money", rather than stupidly phrasing it the way I did. Nice one UC. :thumb:
