Yea, Dave is super awesome! Botch to MTB is crazy, like Nick Sadler going from Daughters to Fang Island, just completely different in every comprehensible way.

Heavy_Soul wrote:Yeah I think 6... this one video of a studio session I saw he had fuckin' 8 of them
He usually has 4 on his board plus a stack of 'em sitting in a corner of the stage as backups. Dave Knudson is a fuckin' acrobat with those things, spends as much time tapping switches and recording loops between songs as he does playing, crazy to see him pull it off live. The DL4 is like the guy's second instrument up there!
This video showcases a fraction of his DL4 skillz:

Now I want 4 Dl4s... that was cool.

The synth-dude, the vocalist and the bassist, has somekind of lookalike-competition going on.

The power of the beard, making all white guys look the same since 2007, or whenever it became kick ass to grow a beard again!

Menos El Oso and Planet Of Ice are both fantastic albums. Everything else is super solid, but those two albums reign supreme in the Minus The Bear catalog, definitely check that shit out!

Planet of Ice is definitely their best album. The EP They Make Beer Commercials Like This is also amazing.

I will respectfully disagree and say that, for me, Menos El Oso is their best album. But Planet Of Ice is a close second, especially with the bonus track Cat Calls & Ill Means.

I will respectfully agree and also say that, for me, Menos El Oso is their best album. But I respectfully disagree about Planet of Ice. I did not like it very much at all. Especially after listening to Menos el Oso for 2 years straight. I'll have to give it another chance. I'm sure it's good. It just didn't hold up to the previous release at the time when I first listened to it. I feel the same way with Radiohead and The King of Limbs though.
Their earlier albums are fantastic, and the epitome of great indie music for me. I also enjoy last years release, Omni.

I fee like Planet of Ice focuses more on the sound where Menos focuses more on the writing (lyrically and instrumentally). Both awesome for different reasons.
& I second the notion of the Beer EP being amazing. Great shit.
While on the subject of Minus the Bear, I'm going to throw out a few thoughts:
Dave is most definitely an awesome guitarist, however I have the same admiration for Jake as a guitarist as well. He may not do as many crazy or creative things as Dave, but his tone and style are distinct from Dave's style, more mellow and "jazzy" (if that makes sense), but they compliment each other so well. Props to both of them. & Cory writes amazing bass lines. & Erin doesn't write as many cool drum beats as he used to

. Alex is cool haha.
Also, I enjoy OMNI, but I think the album would have been far better if "Excuses" and "The Thief" were replaced with these b-sides:
