I played one of the Antigua with that weirdo Dano bridge. Gotta say I really liked how it played. That could have been due to the setup because the guy that works at that shop sets guitars up beautifully but I should warn you that the pickup switch is in a really inconvenient spot.
If you got a new Pickguard couldn't you move the switch up where you couldn't accidentally flip it?
I'm torn between setting my Bass VI up in baritone or selling a couple things and just buying one of those jazzy Bari's.

Well that's it, I'm getting one. Looking at the various US and JP reissues. Original ones are stupidly priced

So I set my Bass VI up in baritone tuning (B-b) and I have to say, I think I like it better this way. I still get crazy lows and its thick and gnarly, but I can actually play power chords on the lower strings without it turning to mud.
I think I'll keep it like this until I get a proper baritone and then tune it back E-e. Probably put some extra heavy strings on it too, just for the hell of it.

What gauge strings have you used for B-b?

I got the .073 set from Circle K/Kalium but I probably could have gone one set lighter. I can't really do a lot of bends this way. Maybe once they stretch a little more.

Cool, good to know, I might try it someday!

It's fun. The pickup options help alot. I can still get almost in Bass territory with the neck pickup and extra twangy/aggressive on the bridge.

Just bought one. YES. 1997 Japanese.
Now I need to buy strings before it arrives. You bass players who are also using a VI, do you use the same metal? I've always played stainless steel on bass exclusively. (I tried and hated nickel). Should I go for stainless steel as well, or is nickel better due to the fact the strings are smaller or whatever?

I'd also be interested to know what gauges you guys are using, especially people who also play 4-ers. I was thinking something like 100-76-56-44-36-26 to be able to do switch between E and drop D

.102 - .106 for a more bass feel. Be prepared to file the nut out a little.

If you go to Kalium Strings, they have some pre made sets that are well balanced. I can't remember off the top of my head now.

.26 and .36 will be too heavy, the rest seems ok. My set is .20 .30. .45 .60 .80 .105. I tune to drop D.
