I use a LaBella round wound set gauged 110-84-62-46-36-25 tuned to E flat.

When I checked it out, the bridge pickup was sitting at about a 60 degree angle, as if the pilot holes were drilled too far forward, and both screws were totally stripped.
They are sending it back.
Sucks.

If that's the only issue it seems like the pilot holes could simply be plugged and redrilled no?

I don't want one bad enough to pay full price and then have to fix it.

I see.

The nut on the one I received was sooooo god awful. On top of that, Squier doesn't want to pay more than 1/2 hour to a tech for any warranty repair so it took some fighting to get them to honor the warranty on a brand new instrument. Bullshit.

These problems all sound super lame :(
But you guys are making me happier and happier with my decision to wait for a flip/until I have the money to just build my own or buy a Japanese version

hahahahahahahahahaha :!!!: :joy: :!!!:

So far? Worth the (3 month) wait. Fit & finish is respectable, the low E is super flappy but I expected that so I'm not to beat up about it, everything else is ok and the other strings sound gorgeous.

So no nut issues, bridge issues, super crappy action?
Did they actually have proper quality control on the new batch!?

Action wasn't amazing when I got it but I don't expect a lot from a guitar right from the factory, and the bridge is easy to adjust so I raised the action and intonated a bit, everything but the low E plays great, low E is now playable but still needs more tension. The nut slots are gonna need to be cut a bit wider especially when I put bigger strings on it but it's not BAD currently, not cut very cleanly but perfectly serviceable.

What bridge issues have people had, just the usual jag/jazz stuff? I'm not hugely fond of the bridge design but it seems decently made and is quite adjustable.

On close inspection the binding could be a bit cleaner (but it looks massively cool from afar), but the inlays are nice. Tuners seem alright. Overall I'm very satisfied, getting a bass vi for £270 that's fairly good quality would have sounded like a hilarious joke just a few of years ago.

Sounds KILLER with fuzz, so that helps.

I remember seeing a bit back in this thread someone hating on the strangle switch. That person is wrong, because imo there are awesome sounds in there.

Strangle switch is a 'use it if you use it', but if you do, you absolutely have to have it as an option.

For some things it just doesn't work (same as a Jaguar) - changes the signal load enough that some fuzzes etc react differently (and some times in a good way), but that's exactly what I expected and to a large degree want!

And "floppy" E, well, I'm actually ok with it but I don't use anything but standard tuning. Can see where it'd be a problem if I wanted to bring the doomz even more, but well, I don't. Happy with what I've played for 20-some years, when I've mastered standard tuning I can move on I suppose!

So my VI is due last week of february... so I might want to order strings now (I want to order a custom set directly at LaBella) because they're the best deal for the money and international shipping isn't *that* expensive (in comparison).
So it would make sense to order now so I might have the strings ready when I get my VI. But what if I decide I want a different bridge? Or a locking trem? Or one of dem fancy pickguards? Well, then I'd have to order those again separately. And eat the shipping costs.

So I'm gonna wait until I get the VI, test it for a few days and decide what I want to change after that.
Then I'd ask one of you fine 'murican fuzzbreaux to help me out by ordering everything I need, packing it all together into one package and sending it to me. Of course I'd pay you upfront for everything + a beer for your hassle? Anyone? :poke: :idk:

BTW What string gauges do you guys recommend for dropped d to c tunings? I like heavier strings on the bottom and lighter ones at the top (my regular guitar strings are 10-52 and my 5 string bass has ridiculously fat strings)?

At least based on mine, I think the quality control is...under control. Overall, excellent.
Despite the nut on mine being cut poorly (it looks rough, some plastic stringies), it's not actually cut wrongly.
And the action came surprisingly perfect...low and buzz-free. (Yeah, the E string's floppy, but that's due to gauge and scale length, not the action.)

Yep. Appearance on the nut on mine (one of the earliest in the US) is rough but has zero issues. It came pre-relic'd, the custom shop charges big bucks for that.

Everything else is fine and holding up after six months of abuse (I've been known to play it very physically including actually hitting the body with stuff at bruising velocities to get it to make various noises). Cannot complain, would buy again!
