Finally finished 1Q84. Probably my least favourite book of his, but that's probably just because there's a lot of parallels to his other stuff.

Re: What are you reading?
i've been re-reading stuff i have in the house that i've kept because i think they're great, or at least interesting, books. having finally finished Simon Schama's Citizens, a humongous history of the French Revolution that was controversial in its day for pointing out that the Revolution was the prototype for the modern European totalitarian state, i just tore through Greil Marcus' Lipstick Traces. it's a odd book that tries to illustrate the influence of the Situationists on punk rock and elucidate the history of Situationism by drawing parallels to Dada and Surrealism, but stumbles on Marcus' clumsy deconstructionist writing--he's big on throwing unrelated items into a paragraph as if together they make an obvious pattern--and insistence on imposing a Marxian template on everything he writes about.

Yeah, about done with book I and I'm a fan.
After that... my stack tells me its time to reread FInnegan's Wake, Crime & Punishment, War & Peace... and Ebert's Your Movie Sucks.

i got halfway through generation x and then i just stopped caring....
i don't like douglas coupland all that much when he isn't doing computer-based novels.
so now i am reading v.
it's much easier to read now than it was the first time i tried.

I'm reading a journal article called :"“Scented herbage of my breast”: Whitman's Chest Hair and the Frontispiece to the 1860 Edition of Leaves of Grass". It's vaguely related to an essay I should be writing.

Yeah but I only have the first two, ye-see.
Got distracted, though. Been up at all hours, and I've been cranking through American Gods again for the first time in years. Actually on ILF so I won't finish it tonight.
