As much as it slays you don't need it AA
Especially with the Floyd man, that's gotta be a headache

Skip, you can always block a Floyd Rose and intonate as standard for Drop A. The locking nut holds the tuning well and the fine-tuners allow for quick tuning tweaks when you take the guitar into a different climate/temperature.

I was thinking I could use a tremol-no to keep the bridge fixed, at which point I could set it up easily. Still a bummer though.

There's a Monson Witch on eBay for 600$ BUT its floyd rose

Anyone ever setup a floyd for Drop A? ;)

I have a Floyd Rose setup for C standard which is...close, perfect tension and intonation on a 26.5" scale with: .58, .44, .32, .18, .14, .11...Im pretty sure most 24 fret Floyd Rose guitar necks are 26.5" scale which is pretty close to baritone, at least closer than the Gibson 24.5, but I imagine you could throw a set starting at either .60 or .62 on there and get to Drop A just fine, just make sure to grab some sort of trem locking/setting device to go with it.

It's not that its impossible to detune a floyd...it just takes a lot of patience, if you end up grabbing it i'd be happy to make recommendations in adjustments once you get it down low and would even be willing to share my tried and true method of a perfect floyd setup every time in under 30 minutes once you get it dialed to the string gauge you are gonna use.

That's exactly what I use...I am seeking a Les Paul right now for the same reason...just a headache to getting floyds dialed in for lower tunings, but the tremol-no will make this goal much more reachable if you decide to grab that guit.

If I did end up getting it I would definitely throw the Temol-no on there and actually probably .14-.68's or .14-.72's like I used on my 27" Baritone Jaguar in Drop G. Most Monson's are 25.5" scale length, and the lowest i've been able to intonate on a 25.5 is drop A even though i'd prefer to go drop G again.

26.5" is considered baritone or extended scale. Most Floyd Rose-equipped guitars, such as Ibanez and ESP, are a traditional Fender scale of 25.5".

Yes, exactly! Also it's nice only having to tune once every other week, another desirable aspect is that strings ONLY break at the bridge, so if you leave yourself some extra wrap and keep your tools handy at a gig...you can replace it super quick! Have had this happen before and the bassist and drummer only had to carry the part for about 45 seconds before the string was back to normal and everything tuned back up(which if you keep the trem block 100% of the time you pretty much will only have to tune the broken string...floating though...this method can get tricky)

Why am I even considering this when if I buy another guitar I want another 8 string.... Damn you ADHD mind!!!!! Shiny things bad!!!! No touch!!! If i'm gonna go low I'm gonna go as low as I can go, that and I miss my old Agile Intrepid in octave down drop D

Please excuse the fallacy...this is probably the reason why my floyd equipped guit has been the only one I can stomach for more than 5 minutes.

Man I love Floyds. Once you get the hang of how they work and are set up it's a great system. Super fast to deal with any issues and even if you float the bridge as long as you replace a string with the same gauge/brand 90 of the time the rest of the strings stay perfectly in tune. Tuning stability overall is amazing. I had a dean with a floyd I never played and had not touched literally in about 3 years. when I went to clean it up and tune it for sale it was still perfectly in tune. Don't be Skurred!
The only reason I don't use one now is I'm playing 12 strings pretty exclusively. I'f they made Floyds for 12's one would be on there though.
