Squier VM basses and guitars are awesome. Upgrade some parts and they are even better. I have a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar guitar and bass both with upgraded parts and love them a lot. Play them more than my more expensive guitars and basses.

Yeah I swapped them out for a set of Duncan's I had already. A 59er in the neck and a Screamin Demon in the bridge. I also put in a pair of NOS Russian paper in oil tone caps and vintage style cloth covered wire.
The Jag bass I have only swapped the bridge to a hi-mass bridge. Plan on swapping the pickups soon to a set of Quarter Pounders soon.
