Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
My stupid realistically-attainable dream is to turn my Grand Marquis into a rugged offroad grandpa car. It wouldn't even take that much money...
3" lift, big all-terrain tires, upgraded suspension, junkyard dual exhaust, lower rear end gears, F150 throttle body, manual transmission swap from a Mustang...
A few thousand at most. I need a better job.

My coolant leak seems to have, uhh, fixed itself.
This coincided with the end of the burning plastic smell that had previously accompanied all of my drives longer than 15 minutes.
Maybe...a gasket was warped, the coolant was flowing improperly and the rising engine heat caused the gasket to melt back into place? Like reflowing solder using a heat gun? Self-repairing technology!!!

It will also resume itself at the least opportune moment.

I do not see the Covfefe flag on top of this:

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
I've been entertaining thoughts of selling my miata. I've got super cheap insurance on it, but with the condition that it can't be driven to work. Which means it's strictly my day off fun car, but since we've had a baby my day off outings typically require a back seat. Despite it being prime sports car driving season, I've literally driven it maybe three times in the past 8 weeks, and not at all for about 3 weeks now.
So I'm considering getting rid of the Miata and replacing it with another fun car with a back seat that'll take a baby seat. But the problem is the only way I can justify a second car is if I have it insured on collector plates like my miata, which means a minimum of 25 years old and in good, original condition, and I've yet to find something that ticks all the boxes ( and I can afford).

RX-7.
Baby can either be strapped to the top of the dashboard or a car seat can be wedged in the back. Your choice.
You could do the same with an MR-2. Baby could be put on the exterior, right behind the cabin. Shouldn't be too noisy out there.
Old Celica hatchback. Just give em the rear part. Backwards facing. Safety.

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
An RX-7 would be cool, my first car was an '88. Unfortunately I think I've told my wife too many stories that ended with that car breaking down, she'd not be best pleased if I got another one.
I found the perfect car for me on my local cl, but sadly too pricey for me.
