am i correct in assuming that the Chroma is much better suited to tabletop use than floor use? it seems too fiddly to adjust bent over or squatting down.

So my Pocket SCÍON finally arrived yesterday after a month in postal limbo (national mail strike has been downgraded to rotating strikes) and I had a bit of time to play around with it. Sent signal through a potato and mushroom, and tried sending some audio into it.
It sounds nice! You get four "instruments", i.e. algorithms that are applied to incoming data, so I'm not sure yet how much variance you're gonna get from having different things plugged into the probes. (There's also a desktop program you can use to customize some of the parameters, though I haven't played with that yet.)

Yeah that’s how I’m using it- but I put all my pedals up on a stand so I can twiddle without bending down. You can MIDI your way to total foot control but thankfully I don’t need that.

i’m still working in a paradigm that assumes stand-up use at least some of the time. the FEB is most suited for tabletop use because several of those boxes get adjusted a LOT and i do run FEB on table -> loopers sometimes. by contrast, my big board was designed to be useable in a band context where functional near-duplication (delays, mid-level dirt, tremolos, reverbs) makes mid-thang adjustment less necessary. i wouldn’t mind a two-table array with the FEB to the right and the loopers to the left, but i have to use foot switches with the loopers while playing so having them on a table isn’t optimal unless they have offboard switching units which mine do not. the big board is kind of too big for a table now unless it’s a reinforced coffee table. it covers like 70% of mine. but my back sure would prefer a nice tabletop the size of the HO-scale model railroaders used back in the 20th century.

is the Scion good as a unit processing audio? as i mentioned before, it interests me more as a touchpad processor than as a cross-genus interface.

FWIW, here is what I’m using:

It’s a Hercules keyboard stand with a piece of some IKEA furniture on top. I have two of them and they’re really useful.

at some point i’d like a table like that above the join of the main board and looping board for what i call a Toy Table, where odd processors that need lots of knob twiddling would go to mangle the board signal before it gets recorded into the loopers. like a DMMH in reverse mode, one or more of the insane Snazzy FX tabletop units, emergency pre-orbit modulators, and/or the EXH Black Finger tube compressor. since i’ve decided to keep it i need a Telefunken and a Amperex/Philips 12AX7. Telefunken are cleanest, but Amperex should sound a bit more forgiving in v1.

I'll have more to sat about this in a few days, hoping to get some time with it over the weekend. I plugged a little synth into it just to get a sense of it, but I didn't draw many conclusions. There does seem to be useful functionality to the sensitivity on the envelope detector.
To be clear, you're either using the touchpad as an input, or sending a signal (biological/audio/cv) through the input jack; the touchpad doesn't manipulate anything coming in from an external source.
Planning to run the lap steel into it this weekend, and that'll give some more clue as to how reactive/variable it is.

These look cool, seems to be a variation on what Eventide used to do in their big box rack units with resonator circuits.

EDIT: I see it was posted in other thread.

though i was still a bit unsure about it i ordered the Catalinbread Pads. i can’t figure out how they’re sequencing the various effects and would just as soon not reconstruct it from various other boxes. the latter half of the demo by the 60 Cycle Hum guy made it more interesting. almost had a heart attack checking out because i somehow got 2 in my cart. “$288?!? what the fuck?” it’s funny when you go to a site you haven’t used in so long that your cards have all expired. we’ll see how this goes, and where it goes. i’m thinking on the FEB, which lacks any kind of tremolo function and can always use some weird reverb.

It seems to be the year of resonator pedals. There already was a 4-note resonator in the H9, but now we have the EAE pedal, the algo in the Chase Bliss Lost & Found, this, and maybe another?
Which is good. The biggest notable use I can think of is Jan Garbarek’s use of the the PCM-70 and then the Eventide Orville resonators, and there’s still plenty more to do with them.

interesting, but IMO not $400 worth of interesting. maybe it would excite me more if most of the demo-age was of guitars…i generally don’t play plinky pocket synths. but seriously, $250 maybe. it’s not something i’d use a lot.

Ooops. I started working at a guitar store again and the herd grew even after a huge purge.

as part of my employer's rollout of a selection of Fender products, i noticed that there's now a Vintera II Bass VI which seems to be an upgrade to the Squier models. I know some folks here are heavily into the Bass VI so i thought you'd like to know.
