I kinda like earthquakes. They jiggle you around for a sec. It's a jiggly surprise.

That's sounds equal parts delightful (mostly because jiggly surprise sounds like it should involve jello) and terrifying.
It's my buddy's birthday and I'm considering orchestrating a large Cheers-esque shout of his name from the entire bar if I can make it happen. He requested it, but it was offhand and a couple months ago so I'm hoping he doesn't remember.

Been there done that, except the one I got was a tiny one for like a mini case. I slapped some stickers on it.
Just make sure the material on the inside that you're sticking the velcro to (sticky side, not velcro side, y'know?) isn't going to rip off the case when you go to move pedals around. That's what happened to me. There was a material all along the inside that just ripped off like wallpaper with the, now useless, velcro still attached.

I have one of those. I don't like using it, though.

i made one too a couple months ago
i drilled/screwed a piece of light wood in mine to attach the velcro to, for this very reason and to raise the height so the cables could hang off w/o resting on the edges.
got some sweet sea foam green uhh foam for the top.
i feel like kramer in that one seinfeld episode, but instead of crackers i got pedals

i was gonna take all the material off the inside and staple some carpet stuff down on the bottom. although it might not be thick enough for that. sherm stix's solution seems pretty solid if that doesn't work out. also it seems like that might be helpful, to add a little incline. i was gonna staple some foam into the top too, hope i can find some sea foam stuff. i need to buy some snap hinges, as well.
why don't you like using yours, mr cat nommer?

I used to use a suitcase board exclusively. The first thing I did was build a wooden platform for inside of it because I hate stepping on squishy material when I'm trying to turn on/off a pedal. I also removed the hinges from the bottom of the suitcase so that the lid could come off, and replaced it with latching locks. I put foam in the top of the lid. It actually held a lot of pedals and was really handy. The only reason I stopped using it was because I got a PP2+, but now that I think of it, I totally could put that under the platform if I wanted to. Its a nice cheap alternative to buying a piece of metal from PedalTrain!

Well, I left the top on mine so I can close it for travel. I took the foot pegs off an old Peavey amp and drilled them to the bottom to keep it sliding around. The sides and back have a couple holes drilled in them, for my daisy chain and tube driver power, and for the cables to run out the sides instead of hanging over the top. I'm not a huge fan of the feel of it, all around. Hard to hit the pedals without resting my foot on the edge, which can cause it to flip over.
I just picked up a small doorway rug from a dollar store and just velcro pedals to it now. *shrug*
