i had some Sweetwater Bonus Bucks so i ordered a translucent purple Behringer 606 clone. the HR-16 makes drum-like sounds, but i needed something that sounds 80s-trashy and this is definitely it. considered the Syncussion, but it's too nice for what i want to do right now.

Cool pedal, although the blend at max or min is never 100% wet or dry..Blackened Soul wrote:Thing is cool! I don’t think I’d gig with it but it is the shit!

mentioned elsewhere, but i have the stuff for my Normie Board almost assembled. i got a Micro-Tron IV which i'll add to the big board, freeing up the EMMA Discumbobulator that's been my faithful companion for ages for the NB. i wanted a multi-modulation unit so i can keep things small and a suggestion led me to the Empress Nebulus, which looks like it'll do the normal things i need and also allow for some deviance. now i just have to wait for the new pedals to arrive so i can figure out what size of board frame will be required. i really want this to be compact so it's simple to use. i could re-use the Gator power supply, but it's just too fucking big so i'll get something that tucks away under the deck. i managed to put the whole thing together with only buying 2 pedals...let's hear it for inventory!

So.. I got frustrated with my maxon chorus… mostly I hate the 9series foot switch.. i don’t turn my parametric on and off much and it’s old vs the newer ones have a stronger spring or something… anyway after getting sick of the switch in fast changes and it has too many knobs that get bumped out of place… I ordered a boss ce2w and am having it fast shipped, hopefully I get it before Saturday’s show (Aberdeen wa rainglow festival), otherwise I’ll use my malekko or a smallclone… it’s a shame.. I love the sound.. and I don’t have pedalboard space for one in the bigger enclosure with a normal switch….

the Micro-Tron IV came in, and it's so far superior to anything else i've tried that i'm just going to get a second one so i have them on both boards. it's very delicate to dial in, but once you do OMG. it came with the Opto-Mod boards, so when i get a second one i can A/B them to see whether i like the standard chip or the Red one better. very touch-sensitive...i can vary my pick attack and make the filter open up to different degrees. HIGHLY recommended. especially at less than $250 used. this is why i look at listings all the time, honey.

Re: Gasalcoholics anonymous? whoever said this was a help group?
We’re so back!!!
I got a Roland BeeBaa with some rust on the input/output jacks and the bottom plate. Was skeptical about it working at all when I saw the condition, but I popped a new battery in an it works!! Sounds really good as well, both modes being quite usable imo.
I’ll still get it serviced, the treble boost circuit just acts as a kill switch now.
In other news I’m starting to thaw my cold dead GAS heart. I want a new bass, a short scale so it’s comfortable to play while screaming in Vidret and mines new band.
I also want some better recording gear. A two notes captor X and a sound card with some more inputs. I probably won’t justify such purchases anytime soon, but I feel the desire nonetheless

Re: Gasalcoholics anonymous? whoever said this was a help group?
i haven't gotten anything notable in pedal-wise since the system collapse because everything went into guitars. i now own the guitar of my dreams, a Gretsch 6136-1959 Stephen Stills signature model White Falcon. it's astoundingly easy to play and i love it to pieces, also a repro of a 1930s-40s Kalamazoo Oriole parlor guitar which is absolutely wonderful. i just had to get another new volume pedal...the strings always break and they defy repair despite my tiny hands. right now i want the Behringer rerub of the Grampian spring reverb and the two amazing doodads in the Stylophone on-deck circle: a theremin with a onboard ribbon controller which should give you biphonics, and a startlingly well-featured drone bass synth. i still wish i could find a reverse delay or reverse reverb i like, but that seems pretty hopeless at this point. in any case i can't afford shit...since the system breakdown my car died, i got another, had it A WEEK before totaling it, and am now up to my tits in car and insurance payments so i'm going to have to make do for awhile.

Finally scored a grey/silver Dwarfcraft Ghost Fax! This might be the end of my collecting/hunting. I suppose a black necromancer or red SOMMS could tempt me but otherwise I think I'm done.

I think the only thing I got recently is a Donner Medo, a l'il handheld goovebox thing that I got a pre-release deal on. (Weirdly, Donner did a kickstarter for it!)
I has a looper, which is awkward to use with the physical interface, and a microphone that can sample sounds. There's a desktop app (which isn't very well documented yet) that can change the stock sounds somewhat, so I was able to crank up delay and tails and so on to suit my purposes. It has some motion control stuff that is kinda cool. Built-in speaker or headphone jack out for pedal chain fun.

Re: Gasalcoholics anonymous? whoever said this was a help group?
My big gear purchase over the ILF lockdown wasn't guitar-related and wasn't really a purchase so much as a "repurpose".
I am quite fond of scratching and scribing into the emulsion of Super8 and 16mm and 35mm filmstrip using various tools to create different lines. Some gouge deeper, some allow for a finer nuance where you can scrape through layers of emulsion to create not just a "white" line where there is no emulsion whatsoever, but a greenish or bluish line as the line only takes away some of the emulsion, or the edges of the line are greenish, etc.
[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/233878453[/vimeo]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYftHsu1JEo
Some of the things I use for this process include:
a carbon steel scriber
two different diamond-tipped scribers
a bookbinding awl with a wooden handle
various sewing needles
carving knives from a soapstone carving kit for making a "chop" of your name in Chinese characters
etc.
Recently I discovered some tools used by model train enthusiasts. It is a world I know little about. But recently I saw something online that looked like a mechanical pencil except it had a metal stylus.
"Wait a minute!" sez I to myself, all discombobulated and full of bellicose bluster. "I have a cheap, plastic mechanical pencil, surely one of the sewing needles I have is the diameter of the size of pencil lead that this mechanical pencil accommodates!"
But I was silent. I had no retort for myself.
After checking I did find that one of my sewing needles fit the aperture of the mechanical pencil. After using some pliers to snip off the "eyelet" end of the sewing needle, I was able to insert the needle into the mechanical pencil and now I can create a very fine, skinny line that I can scratch into the emulsion of film and my desire for ridiculously specific tools can now veer off in other related directions.
In case you're wondering, the difference between just clutching a needle in your bare fingers and hoping for the best results and having some level of control is like night and day (in Death Valley). Previously I tried to make "grips" for my sewing needles by plunging the "eyelet" end into a wine cork. This is better than trying to maintain a deathgrip on a slippery little sewing needle as you try to use it like a pencil, but I couldn't really sink a lot of the needle into the cork and therefore had a certain length of floppy needle (which nobody wants) that was hard to control with precision. This can lend itself to random, but not intentionally. And the world is full of enough bad random right now.
And these are some 16mm film frames that I scratched in the past using an awl and scriber:

Congrats! I have been waiting for Ghost Fax to show up on Reverb but either they never do or they go super fast. Some very freaky sounds in that pedal, gotta love it!PanicProne wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 3:57 pm Finally scored a grey/silver Dwarfcraft Ghost Fax! This might be the end of my collecting/hunting.
