Re: Behndy's Smut Shop (TB and other bass related crap insid
Fleas got the funk or had, I haven't listened to a newer RHCP in years. I use to love their early stuff up to Blood Sugar Sex Magic. After that, A cool song here and there. Flea made me excited about bass along with Les Claypool when I was a lad and knew I didn't want to just play root notes and 5ths. They encouraged me to find my voice and not just be a Nicki Sixx (which is why I picked up bass in the first place).

I rather liked his playing on the new album. He's not my favorite bassist of all time or any such shenanigans, but he's pretty solid.

Me neither, he has a unique voice and plays to his strengths. Hell, that is all I can ever hope to do.

Flea was my hero when I was like 14. So was Claypool, but Les still is today, and the Chili Peppers fucking blow.

I never could get in to Les. A bit basic, but Steve Harris is what makes my input jack moist.

Flea and Les both brought the bass into the forefront of pop music during the early-mid 90's. Props for that.

yah. i dunno about Nikki Six. that scares me. YOU SCARE ME DELTA.
but Flea and Claypool and Burton are the reason i picked bass when i was a young'in. that, and because i've been this tall since i was 13 and the first time i held a guitar and looked like i was about to get down on a uke i recoiled in horror. HORROR.
butttttttttttt........ mostly nostalgia. i like some of Claypools recent stuff, but haven't listened to Flea since way back. and don't really anymore.
plus, fucking Kiedisalhea is AWFUL. horrible. like listening to a kid with down syndrome spout out his sexual fantasies through the worst auto-tune program ever.
BLEGH.

I was really young when I was into the Crue big time, the Glam Metal days. I had a hot older cousin that was into all of that. She dug Nikki, therefore I wanted to be him. I cut the high strings on my acoustic and this journey began. SO I DON'T GIVE A FIZZUCK! NIKKI IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ME!

Re: Behndy's Smut Shop (TB and other bass related crap insid
Hot older cousin? Yikes.
I've never really been into RHCPs.
Les was an early influence, purely from the standpoint that it opened my ears to the bass being a credible creative instrument as opposed to purely a supportive instrument (not saying he was the first to do it,...but I'm saying he is the first person that I discovered that could do it).
I'm really loathed to cite influences though. The biggest impact on my playing has been learning and having breakthroughs. If any person has had an influence on me it has been a result of me adopting a work ethic,...or approach,...or philosophy of that person rather than merely wanting to play or sound like that person. Teachers, professors and people I've played with have been more of an influence to me than any famous person. Shit,...half the bands I listen to,...I couldn't tell you the bassist's name to save my life.
