Re: Been a while since we had a HARMONIC PERCOLATOR thread,
percolators produce even order harmonics? is this similar to crossover distortion? does something like the zvex machine/geiger counter/prunes+Custard get into this territory?

Re: Been a while since we had a HARMONIC PERCOLATOR thread,
I still like my 1000 hurst, but this...Dunno, it might be just the demo, but that sorta medium gain nasal harshness and lack of low end...sorta reminds me of my early days when I couldn't afford fresh batteries for my DS-1Chankgeez wrote:

Re: Been a while since we had a HARMONIC PERCOLATOR thread,
Harmonic Percolators don't quite seem to produce that type of waveform, but kind of come close at full bore. The Geiger Counter and Prunes and Custard can definitely do crossover distortion, as can the Spencer Amps Subzombie, Source Audio Multiwave distortion, and Wolftone/Malekko Chaos.alexsga wrote:percolators produce even order harmonics? is this similar to crossover distortion? does something like the zvex machine/geiger counter/prunes+Custard get into this territory?

The builder offers his wares directly through Reverb. There was a white one available not too long ago.alexsga wrote:where do you buy this one?ck3 wrote: Customeffects Harmonic Percolator: No-frills, bare-bones remake of the classic with all the characteristic clang and stank.

Surprised how low gain it seemed at lower volumes but when cranked this thing rips. Never out of control or super gnarly, just actually quite dialed in to a nice range. Though I found there to be some nasty gated stuff in there too (in the best way). HPs don't sound good in front of my JMP but this one had enough oomph to work well. More volume than most HPs. There is only one setting that starts to get chewy with a compressed pick attack, but the notes also decay in a nice motorboat way. Turning down the voltage and adjusting the bias lets the pedal sort of change texture in a way to make it ease up on the fuzz but still has plenty of grit. The bass adjustment knob has a decent usable range, meaning it doesn't go from mud to piercing.
At my bassist's house we were able to compare the MK with my Laowiz Pig Pile and his Latent Lemon (his Collin's HP was out on loan and the guy couldn't make our perc party). Each pedal as it's own flavor but the MK really delivered the best in his rig, allowing more bass through to the amp while adding a good amount of fuzz that wasn't too colorful. I honestly think he would buy one if he wasn't trying to fund another bass at the moment. Easily dialed in a great sound in less than 5 minutes.
Thanks again for doing the tourbox, Drock!
Demo notes:
Demos recorded on a Zoom H2n.
Drumbrute > MK Ultra > H2n direct. The odd scuffing noise is turning one of the knobs.
EGC and Duo recordings: EGC guitar into a '76 JMP mkII with a 4x12, tuned CGCGCC or AACGCC
Bass TB2000 / guitar TB1000 into a custom amp and a 2x15
I have an hour of material with me and my drummer. If anyone wants to hear more lemme know. Maybe some more bass too.

Thanks! I mean, the pedal sounds great too.
