Third Man drops a $75 pedal kit (soldering required). I'm not sure how many DIY people will go for this, when you can source your own parts for half the cost of this. Maybe it will get a few people into building, though, that wouldn't have otherwise. :idk: Also, it clearly looks reminiscent of a Maestro, but I'm not sure how closely it's engineered to perform like one.

Better not order this, if you don't have a smartphone...
The Fuzz-a-Tron kit includes:

QR CODE for Online Instruction Manual

Circuit board and components

hook up wire

battery lead (9v not included)

Black chassis box[...]
It comes with stickers, so you can bedazzle it as much you prefer...

i have to say that this must be the most boring "normal" NAMM i've ever seen. i looked at 18 pages of new at NAMM shit on Sweetwater and the only things that were interesting at all are the Guilds, a new MXR 10-slot power supply that has an onboard transformer (no more wall wart!), a couple of lovely blue-family colors in the Gretsch Electromatic line, and Ernie Ball flatwound strings which aren't a new thing but i guess they're pushing them or revised them or something. the thing i think is weird is that Sire (which always makes me wonder why a record company is making guitars) has an entire line of Larry Carlton models including Strat, Jazzmaster, and LP Junior typologies. i didn't know anyone still cared about Larry Carlton, much less cared enough to have a whole line of cheapish signature models, and they don't have much to distinguish them from similarly-priced Fender models. other than that, Fender has more boring Strats, Gibson thinks they can sell pickups, Martin has a new batch of cheapazoid laminate guitars, and you can order a Huss and Dalton Les Paul starting at $5000.

Has anyone used any of the Discomfort Designs stuff? They make a looper that looks interesting and they're coming out with some new modular pedals that would be terrible on any kind of stage but maybe fun to mess around with anyway.

We'll need to see how they play with the new Gamechanger modular pedals.

they're not exactly free with details of how these things work, are they? the stunt looper idea is interesting, but i don't know if i have applications for those features. and how long are the loop times? that's kind of an important consideration.

Comment buried on this video claims each looper has 60 second buffer length.

Hi! Each looper has its own 60 second buffer length… There’s no way to automatically fade a loop, but the mix knobs give manual controls over loop levels...

that's not bad, but it's also not very long. my potential interest level will be determined by how long i tend to make individual loops with the new setup. with the old setup i was limited to ~16 seconds and never lost that habit even after i switched to the Ditto x2 despite its 5-minute loop time...i'll have to figure what kind of lengths work well for the current concept. the 1440 has a degrade function that fades out old layers and up to 99 seconds autofade, but some of the Spar's weird shit might be interesting. i don't need to have to figure out any more equipment at the moment, though. my reasoning and logic circuits are really tired.

19 42 is the union of two distinct effects that I think work really well together, a square wave gated Fuzz and a classic Filter like the ones found on 70s synthesizers, with all the bells and whistles I thought were cool to have in it, like an Envelope, fx loop, exp control, individual and master footswitch..

I think I shared the TMA-1 and the Iceland Spar (looper) previously, but I've not had a chance to use either. All the feedback I've read on them was of the 5* variety. :idk:

Champion Leccy drops a dual-verb this Friday.

It's a tremverb+swayverb combo. (oscillating, fast chop, lo-fi drift, and more)

WMD is back!

I've restructured many things in my life and have made more bandwidth for designing new musical tools. The shop has moved, stress levels are down, I'm working with a new contract manufacturer, and I'm excited to be making electronics and music as my artistic outlet again. Thank you for the support and for making music with my creations, it's kept me going through this transitory period. - William Mathewson

Legacy gear is back too…for now

WMD being back means I can bring some popular items back into stock, but not all. Keep your eye on wmdevices.com store and the Reverb shop for chances to get some of the last run of legacy pedals and modules. I’m periodically adding inventory as I make time to test it from the backlog.
Coming back also means new modules (and pedals!) are coming soon, too. There are no spoilers, but I hope to have announcements about new gear to help you create the music I love to hear you make.

Until then, check out some of the new WMD merch, and if you're in Denver, check out some of the events we are sponsoring.

i went and looked up demos because i don't remember what the Geiger Counter did other than that it was way too much for me. i wound up watching PGS Andy and i found it quite amusing that after months of seeing new ring modulators that people use to do stuff that's not all that ring-moddy, the first thing i saw him do with it was to detune it slightly and go all Larry Coryell on my ass. how the turns have tabled...
