I'll just reiterate what I said in the thread coupleofnapkins posted: afaik, Josh doesn't design the majority of his pedals, iirc, it was Keeley and Cusack that designed his better/newer ones.
So if that's still true (I don't keep up with the guy or his company), then it makes more sense to buy from those people than him.

I used to be local to him and I've posted enough about his awful cult (International House of Prayer) and the shady business practices of his shop. JHS is a shit and makes lame shit but his religious work is actually damaging and harmful to the world.

I really and truly googled the shit out of this when that Jason Lamb video went up - as in “can I enjoy this video in good conscience?” and found very little aside from a few gear forums. I am saddened to hear of this first hand account. I googled the website for that church and it looks SKETCHY AS FUCK. Is he still “affiliated” with them?

Also my wife came down while I was watching it and commented that he has no eyebrows. What’s up with that?

Honestly, I don't know. I stopped paying attention after I left Kansas City 6 years ago. I'm sure IHOP has done some serious PR in the meantime. The last time I even thought about JHS was when I was mulling over their VCR pedal. Since JHS is lame and Ryan Adams is a fucking creep, it became a non-issue for me.

I like how I would never buy anything from this guy regardless of anything and yet I’m worried about the YouTube algorithm..... like I’ve watched two videos it’s not like I’m supporting some kind of conversion therapy agenda or some shit..... still better safe than sorry! You’re toast eyebrow man!!

“This ones a buzz box wow weird it sounds goofy and strange and weird and odd.....”

The Youtube algorithm is a pipeline to the alt-right, whether that's via Joe Rogan and Ben Shapiro or JHS and That Pedal Show.

I don't want to make a habit out of picking out flaws in other guitar pedal builders. you know the whole glass house thing. but lately I noticed this insane cult following in the comment section on youtube for his channel. people hang on his every word as if he is some amazing audio engineer luthier electrical engineering guitar god. he will say something really stupid then in the comment section there is this idiot echo chamber worshiping his *knowledge*. I never found his assessment of how to use a pedal or choose a pedal to be insightful. He sounds like someone who got hired by mistake and turned on the bullshit factory to keep his job. if he wasn't on youtube then maybe people who are more qualified would have a chance to teach. he is just wasting everyone's time or teaching them how to make poor choices in gear. too bad the people that watch his videos don't have a way to determine he is a wack. people that know will sniff it out pretty quick. I'm so glad this is ILF not youtube comment section. on youtube we would all be reported or deleted or flamed for disrespecting the truth that comes out of his mouth.

What's in it for Keeley and Cusack? Does JHS just pay them a fee or something?

If you have the cash, anything is possible! It happens in every industry (ghostwriting, ghostbuilding, ghostbusting, etc.), because everybody needs help, right? How else can you explain why South Park has been on for 20+ years?

Tithe accordingly, my dudes :excellent:

Money. Cusack OEMs several other brands, would assume Keeley does too given the size of his operation. They're making the pedals and/or parts to spec for JHS to market and mark up, probably via agreements for X number of units in Y time frame. They're also surely collecting licensing fees for the pre-existing IP stuff they use (like Cusack's analog + tap tempo design, relay-based true bypass, etc) and probably flat fees up front for any bespoke engineering/design work, but that could be arranged any number of ways. They're why JHS rapidly went from a pile of poorly-made generic drive clones to more complex stuff like tap tempo delays and the multi-circuit drives with custom PCBs. He managed to sucker enough of the P&W crowd long enough to be able pay actual engineers to design and build them.

Lately? That has been how he's gotten away with so much shit for so long. Say anything critical of JHS on TGP, Facebook, Youtube, basically anywhere not here and the mob comes out to shut it down. Apparently, you just gotta tell people you're Jesus' personal pedal dude and they'll follow you into the gates of... well, take your pick. :idk:

I have been doing this for a long time. I do PCB design, product design, rapid prototyping for others. I learned that it is best to be paid up front in cash and distance myself from any random brand that could potentially drag me down with bad PR. It is very much desirable for me since I can make a living wage without having to manage a company, manage a brand, and risk stuff not selling. there is no initial investment from me no risk. it really saves my ass when I have rent to pay and I can work a small side job on my own schedule for quick cash. I think most companies are money pits and time suck.
