It's a guard/sled dog, so it's probably a hybrid, on a chain (kind of hard to tell in that pic). The headline from the article is "Brave dog takes on polar bear...and wins!!". The polar bear wandered up, the dog flipped out and strained on the end of its chain, the polar bear stood there sniffing it from a hair away and then eventually walked away.

I think we need to either establish terrain or make several an option in this hypothetical. Is this taking place on a flat open plain? Are the attacks coming from one direction or multiple sides? Repeated from my initial question...are they coming in waves or all at once?
This could definitely be a tower defense style flash game or a tabletop D&D style battle.

So we can assume that sled dogs are not delicious, probably because of the muscle mass they would have to pull a sled. Animals that lead lives of leisure are generally better tasting.

Here's another shot/angle, for reference.

As Neonblack's Chief Deputy Tempeh Hombre, I am going to say "Yes". One must assume the absolute biggest, meanest, and worst of each animal.
I personally need to think about this. Food for thought though, the hawk is basically the hammerhead shark of the sky. Not as fast a Peregrine Falcon, their hearing isn't as good as barn owls...but those talons. I encourage people to really think about how you would defend yourself against the hawks. Birds go right for the soft tissue too so even if you have lions and gorillas...what good is that if all you are blind?
This is gunna be tough...

Can I see what the hawks see?

Again, as Chief Deputy Tempeh Hombre, I must declare "No". The Animals and yourself are a 'Team', not a 'Cluster'. Can't swap abilities. Sorry if I'm taking liberties here Neon.

that's disappointing but I accept your ruling.
I am assuming though that the hawks can communicate with me on some level correct?

Cheif Deputy is correct. No hivemind.
Although if this becomes a tabletop thing, maybe they're like familiars and some magic rules apply.
We need more rules. Maybe some sort of arena/battlefield. You're in the center with your chosen companions.
This really needs to be a game, holy shit.

This could be an entire YA series and eventual movie/cable tv franchise. It's a race to the copyright!

Minecraft style crafting/survival game. You have to farm and hunt to feed your companions knowing there's always the looking threat of an attack. Every animal would give perks to your base in addition to serving as attackers and defenders.

I would watch that movie....realizing that we may just be talking about beastmaster vs. catness, but it still sounds awesome

Same. Or as an anime or something. I guess that begs a question if we are battling other humans in similar team scenarios or just an onslaught of critters? Also if selecting a species rules them out of the potential enemies or not. So many questions, but regardless I think I stick with wolves and hawks for their raw potential.
