It just seems to be the main killer of the joy that possibility brings, at least in my case.

Or just doubt in general, I guess self-doubt doesn't relate to pedals.

Another way of putting this (I think I read this on ILF) is that video games teach you that the continued presence of obstacles and enemies usually means you're headed in the right direction.
