Some may disagree, but I think it's right under Empire.

IMO the rest of the rank and why they're worse:

New Hope: whiny Luke
Jedi: Ewoks
Force Awakens: entertaining, but basically just a reboot
Prequels: nothing good about them really at all. I saw a bit of them on TV recently and they haven't aged well in the slightest. It's a challenge to envision them being more horrendous than when they were released, but they've really matured like warm garbage.

Yeah, for scale, I've enjoyed all of them in varying degrees except for the Phantom Menace which was IMO BS.

You forgot the cartoons. :p
(Clone Wars is top notch, especially the last season)

HOW GOOD IS THE SCORE?!
I don't get the comparisons to TFA, they're so different it's like saying "fuck Jedi Knight II, Rogue Leader dicks on it". They're both good BUT the Rogue1 score is a lot more memorable than TFA's. Unsurprising, given Giaccino is probably the catchiest damn scoremonger in Hollywood these days.
Dude I freaking LOVED TFA. All I'm saying is that even though that movie was excellent, this one even light years ahead of it.
Has set a new standard.

There were some super corny things about TFA I wasn't so hot about, but they did it for the kids so that's ok.
This one is like an adult Star Wars so, zero gripes.

I really liked TFA too. A lot of people I know were bitching about how it's yet another Death Star, and basically how it's the same ass shit where they go attack the weakness. Yes, it's derivative. But fuck, wasn't it fun? I really enjoyed it.

The way I see it, it was basically just a very deliberate return to form after the prequels, which yes, had their occasional moments, but were pretty universally viewed as disasters. I have high hopes for the next two being a bit more innovative, especially the next one (directed by the Looper guy).

Yeah Looper was a good movie! Hopefully will make for a good Star Wars.

As an engineer I was confused by that the whole time, like with all their fancy tech why the giant switches and stuff this looks ridiculous :poke:

Rule of cool though I guess. And it did help the heroes figure out how to use stuff.

(In case it isn't clear I like the design visually in the movie I just don't think it makes sense as real stuff that people use but that's OK because this is Star Wars and nothing makes real world sense)

I am disappointed in the lack of limb dismemberment in recent Star Wars films. It's just not the same without.

There was implied amputation, isn't that enough?

Also, looper was rad. Definitely looking forward to whatever that guy can do with thme material.

Can we start a spoilers thread yet?

:idk:

I'm very interested, but i'll probably be waiting a week or two before I see it. Its how TFA was so popular last year which now gets shat on now while Rogue is getting so overly praised.

Star Wars is just this weird entity where its impossible to nail down perfectly, I just want to see a normal movie set in the Star Wars universe. I just want a SW style James Bondy/espionage film that doesn't have anything to do with Boba Fett. Hell, any movie with a Star Wars theme would work perfectly. Image 'Stand By Me', 'Nightcrawler' or 'Ghost In The Shell' set in any city in the SW universe.

I do like the Red Letter Media reviews. No idea how well liked or disliked like they are in the internet hive mind, but they're actually very objective and cover what Star Wars "is" culturally, which I'd rather watch than a bog-standard review.

FWIW I tought TFA was such an under-cooked piece of wasted opportunity, and this sounds the same. I LOVE the aesthetic. It looks like they've brought the original concept art (Ralph Mc....Warry?) to life (and the Blade Runner trailer gave me a boner for the design) but I'm just not feeling it for RO. The whole "look at this! Remember this droid? Remember Peter Cushing's face! Look, here's that for no reason!" And the thing of seemingly central footage in the trailer not being in the film has put me off. It's just sounds like the Star Wars version of Suicide Squad or something.

Why do the AT-AT's even exist? Nothing about them makes sense and they're stupid. Take that, nerds. Also, why didn't Luke just use his lightsaber to chop their legs off instead of doing the fancy grappling/grenade combo? Fucking idiot. In fact, the whole rebel plan on Hoth should have been "Luke hides in the snow, then jumps out and chops all their legs off as they pass by." Fucking idiot Rebels.

Because you can't just slice through metal like butter with a lightsaber.
It'd be like cutting through wood with a dull saw. Eventually it'll get through, but it takes forever and roly poly robots are gonna try to kill you first.

jr has nailed it.
AT-ATs are stupid, but who gives a fuck?

They were clearly designed to fail in spectacular ways. Trip, fall, blow apart, &c.

Also: it's AT-AT--like, the acronym. Not 'at at' spoken phonetically. I hear people fuck this up a lot. Some of them are children, but I refuse to lower my standards for fictional heavy artillery pronunciation.
