Re: Accents
Ah snap. Gotta watch those quotes within quotes.
Irregardless is a common internet crime against English.
Don't stress. I've seen it so often now I've almost typed it myself.
It sounds like an AI irrigation system for lazy gardeners.

I typed that on purpose, I don't personally use it, but it's pretty common in Miami.

Re: Accents
Cant help but chuckle at myself. I did consider this due to the affinity for es-panglish speakers to use the word "regardless" as is. There was a latino comedian in the early 00s who did a bit about his father shoehorning the word into casual conversation. His name escapes me...the quote/edit kerfuffle disrupted my morning brainwaves more than usualInconuucl wrote:I typed that on purpose, I don't personally use it, but it's pretty common in Miami.![]()

For a long time, northern English accents were seen is grotty, and a sign of lower class. Then Game of Thrones came along, now my accent is a total babe magnet. Thanks HBO.

Re: Accents
That's a dang neat accent. Hadn't heard it before.
I was curious, so I looked at youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2QdYBVzs1o
The problem with that is finding 100 random people from Bakersfield/Kern county these days. But I do pronounce words like they say. There is also a more pronounced drawl or twang or something. My accent is a little more Arkansas than Oklahoma though. I used to hear a lot of things like "warshh" the car and cabinet "droor". My grandpa would say "wrench" the dishes. Pillow vs Pel-low was another one.
"Know what I mean", "eh?", "Know what I'm sayin'" were all more common than "ummm" or "uh" for pausing.
There is also a hint of spicoli and Mexican influence in there. Quite a bit of Basque too.
A lot of people sounded like Merle Haggard

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3l1kqyq594
Which is kind of what I sound like sometimes. My family predates the dust bowl migration there I think. At least half of it does.
There is also this weird joke voice that a lot of people do there, usually when sayin' somethibg like "know what I'm sayin'?" (Billy more does it in the trailer below). Or "Man". Not a lot of swearing...mostly weird funny things instead.
There is a bunch of it in this trailer (I think I know the guy that made that):

The Kern/northern Mexico hybrid is kinda cool too.
I guess I should mention that Haggard is kinda Dale-ian or North of the River...meaning from oildale. It's a little different and more Oklahoma. Kevin Harvick is kind of like that too..
https://youtu.be/4rkjP4y_bp0
https://youtu.be/IvZFUtYBe5A
Korn have lost it a bit, but head has the most Bakersfield, the guy on the left has a bit of la influence and Jonathan Davis is trying to hide it...but it comes out (I know he went to back coaches and voice trainers)
It's a pretty subtle accent overall.
Sorry that I rambled...I love learning about accents.
