The new/hardened rule is that most small boxes under 1 LB is First Class/cheapest possible rate with tracking/info, which I didn't really realize until too late either. I recently learned - FAR TOO LATE as I think that my days of pedal-flipping are waning - that it is a lot cheaper to ship a single pedal Priority Mail if I just buy a smallish-sized box from USPS for a couple bucks rather than using their Medium Flat Rate Priority Mail box. I would have saved a couple hundred bucks over time if I had known.
Priority Flat Rate boxes are ideal if you're shipping heavier stuff, however, since the LBs really give you a lot more leeway for teh bux (up to 70 freakin' pounds!), which really starts to count during the holidays, because most of the time
