Too soon!

RIP based ford.
It was just a joke anyway. Canada has its own problems. A Silver Mt. Zion told me so.

Wow D.o.S. you really dug deep in this one! I liked it though! Feels like I'm at a "roast." A really mean one with just one guy.
Anyway, Canada definitely has its own problems.
Just ask our indigenous peoples.

We all do

I can say I have always liked traveling in Canada, and if it wasn't for the shitty music scene [when I was there last] I'd love to live in Victoria… granted… I am not really sure if there is any actual difference in living there than here in Olympia.. they are really similar interns of people, weather, vibe, sasquatches and stuff

I know I've been guilty of it, and it makes me sad. It's like a sickness. When I do think something negative about someone else, I take my own inventory (sorry AA talk here) and try to look at myself. Who am I to judge another man or woman?
Some many people are only *happy* when complaining about someone else, dead bent on fixing the world which they blame for poor life choices instead of pursuing personal growth. "I'm unable to realize my goals because of <insert bogeyman> and this has to change, everything I say & do is right!"
Humans are stubborn, judgmental, superstitious creatures of habit who fear the unknown out of survival instinct. We're all guilty of it to different degree. Western culture is hyperbolically superficial. And narcissistic. Throw a stone in any direction & you'll hit someone with a persecution complex, likely a bigot.
Tolerance for those who are different only extends as far as the ego allows. Those who are secure in their own skin are most likely to live & let live and take others as they come. Obviously the threat factor applies and choices are most frequently made to minimize risk via path of least resistance. Having standards, personal integrity is virtuous; attempting to superimpose one's own ideals over another individual's, using coercive measures until only the transplant remains, is not. Telling someone "you cant do that" will be met with resistance & resentment. Especially under duress. It's far more effective for someone to reach the *favorable* conclusion on their own. But easier said than done

Patriarchy doesn't refer to different laws for men and women, but structural things, like what is accepted and expected from different genders. I kinda find that acknowledging patriarchy isn't a radical opinion at all. Like for instance the difference of women vs men in power, why jobs that are women dominated are if you think of it extensions of jobs that were done in the homes before, like teaching, cleaning, nursing etc etc. And in terms of sex there is a massive difference of what is expected and accepted. You all know it, this is hardly radical or controversial opinions is it?
What you've described isn't patriarchy, but the product of life choices by individuals in a free society. There are still male dominated industries like refuse, mining, roughnecks, longshore fishing, sewer workers, high voltage power line maintenance...where women are scarcely found. Fields with high risk/high reward. Long hours, weeks...even months away from family & tangible risk of dying on the job. Nothing is preventing women from entering those fields other than their own decisions. There is no call for "equal (by counting genitalia) representation for half of the population" in any of those industries. Women have consciously chosen to abstain from such a career path.
The career paths where women dominate provide perks they find desirable, are much more comfortable & flexible, conducive to raising a family or having more free time which is again, by choice.
As for the attitudes toward sex issue...blame puritanism...which is at odds with the reality sex sells. "The world's oldest profession" is self-explanatory.
In a free society people naturally gravitate toward whatever they find desirable. In patriarchy, women do what they are told or face savage consequences.
Patriarchy is institutional; such as the system of Saudi Arabia, where women cant drive or vote, hold office. Where the eyewitness testimony of 4 women is equal to 1 man, where divorce is only granted if the man gives permission. Where women are literally treated as property and 2nd class citizens, by law. Which specific rights do men have (in the west) that women do not?
Who says patriarchy has to be institutional? I don't know exactly what genre of feminism I mainly subscribe to, but most of it is dealing with some kind of structural issues, and not institutional. It becomes kinda philosophical when we start discussing free choice, for instance: is it free choice that leads children of parents with academic background to go into academics themselves? This is true for both high tuition countries like the US and for free education like Sweden, so obviously something else than free choice comes into play. Maybe, it's upbringing, social contexts and what is expected that comes into play?
"In patriarchy, women do what they are told or they face savage consequences" let me just point out a few things, that I've seen random women being harassed for without provoking it: hair in armpits, saying no to having sex with a stranger, saying yes to having sex with a stranger, hair on legs, being lesbian (I guess being homosexual for any gender is subject to harassment), being drunk, being dressed too "slutty". I don't know, I suppose I could say other things, but to say any of these things are a problem for dudes (except the gay thing) to the same extent is being kinda naive. Yes: not as bad as Saudi Arabia, but you can't compare yourself with the worst and be happy about it really. So it's not about "specific rights" between the genders, but as I said in the beginning: it's about what is expected and accepted by society

I didn't say the whole of Canada… I said Victoria… it is a island off of BC… [I think the problem is the tourist element, small tourist areas tend to suck ass for non-touristy things, I lived in one for a long time..] sure it's been a few years but I have my doubts it's changed a whole lot.. I know the rest of the country has a good scene…

Question of definition. Why are male dominated jobs paid way more than female dominated? Sure, there are problems with not defining what "the wage gap" means, but there is still de facto a big difference in what men and women earn. If anything, it points to stuff like men more likely to have higher positions, male dominated jobs have a higher pay on average and women more likely to work part time. No, not a result of individual evil men laughing all the way to the bank, but instead of dismissing this as just circumstantial, let's just spend a little time thinking about WHY these differences exist.
