Basically as a rule i feel fine with cloning pedals for personal use. The ability to do so has been around for a while and as of yet not put any builders i know of under (though i suppose it could have happened with someone? Insert freekish blues joke here). I wouldn't personally try to sell a clone of a currently in production pedal - though i have bought one - unless it was a commision from someone i knew, or if the original builder was clone friendly. If it is something no one has bothered to build in years, it feels more whatever. Also though, i am probably approachg these views from a very different moralistic perspective than many peers, bc anti-capitalism.

I'm wondering why you feel like it's okay for personal use? Can I download videogames too? I'm not going to play in tournaments. What about music? I'm just going to listen to it through headphones. I think I fail to see the logic. A shitload (the majority?) of people play music by themselves, for their own amusement. Does that justify stealing other people's ideas and work? I don't mind people having different opinions on this. I'm just trying to understand the justification behind it, especially when we're talking about reeeeaally small builders. Doesn't their ingenuity deserve your money for the time spent figuring it all out simply because you're not going to make money off of using it for recordings/at gigs? The logic ends up being; they don't deserve money unless you're making money from it as well.

So, it's OK to circuit-bend things that you didn't design the circuit for?

In the case of the IC/Digital Water, NUX still made the money they asked for. Rhys bought those pedals. With the bend, you're paying for the idea/work finding the bend (and artwork+components (artwork is subjective, so don't bother)). If you buy your own NUX (and factor out price of artwork and components) and build the ICW/DW, you're basically stealing his idea and his work. I'll repeat this again; I only care for pedals still in production.

Difficult to discern what's 'in production' for a company like Seppuku, though.

What is "UC's bending the rules of logic to align with his ethics"?

I'm not saying I don't at least partially agree with UC. I think it's interpretation that leaves room for attacking his position.
