Fine, not a game, but an intensely introspective alternate life simulation training exercise.

Isn't this already what that movie is, though?

Also, games can be (a) intensely introspective, (b) alternative lives, and (c) life training exercises.

I mean, I think I've learned a lot about life from playing Skyrim. If you get a good sleep, you'll have the well-rested bonus. Take more than you need to, and you'll be carrying too much to run. All politics is just a futile dance over the brittle bones of a billion forgotten dead. Vampires like to complain about the weather. Murder a dragon and you'll absorb its powers. You know, practical things.

Yes.
That was my point.

But yeah, Skyrim is a pretty great life simulator. If life was at all able to be represented by a medieval world of pseudo-Scando culture,
Magic, and unrealistic harm from the weapons of others.

Fallout as a series is pretty much what I'm calling, at this point, a future life simulator.
In that it probably won't be too long before life actually resembles that.
I'm hoping without the supermutants, glowing ones and deathclaws.
Because fuck deathclaws.
But also, that fucking barter system, wherein one buys shit way overpriced then immediately flip it without use for a huge loss.
That shit is like its own mini GAS simulator.

I've never played Fallout, but I really should. I pretty much exclusively play Elder Scrolls games and Pokémon games.

I have a copy of COD:BO2 but I could never put Skyrim down long enough to even play it, never even saw the title screen!

I promise when I upgrade to Xbox One it'll be the first game I go for. I wanna see these Deathclaws.

Can we just post this in the POTUS thread forever? Or just all political conversations.

You have my blessing! That's my own paraphrasing on Suzanne Collins' idea. In her book Mockingjay, the main character Katniss Everdeen, after she fights in this huge, violent rebellion she didn't want to fight in, essentially for nothing, she looks at her children dancing, and realizes they're dancing on the site of a massacre she witnessed not a decade before. Cheerful!

Now I'm thinking of this Auden quote:
O dear white children casual as birds,
Playing among the ruined languages,
So small beside their large confusing words,
So gay against the greater silences
Of dreadful things you did...
Now THAT should be on all the political conversations. Stickied.

Re: my OP, I have purchased the 5e DM Guide and I've gotta say, it's more educational than any of my university creative writing classes ever were. A crash-course on how to write a story. Between that and TV Tropes I think you'd be golden.

A buddy of mine started making this rad shit:

I've been tempted to start playing with some friends again just so I can have an excuse to buy some of it, haha...

I'm setting up a game of Golden Skies Story. First role playing game I've done in years. Pretty stoked. Looks cute and fun.

Without reading the rest of the thread too closely, I'm going to assume we've decide to play D&D with ILF folks. I want in!

If that isn't what's happened, then I'm just going to go listen to The Adventure Zone and play with my dice...
