Utter horseshit. Some of the most profound wines on earth are whites.
I'm a racist fuck. I just don't like white wine. Leave me alone.
"I just don't like white wine" = totally acceptable opinion I have no problem with
"white wines suck"/"only newbs/house marms drink whites"/"reds are more profound" = bullshit faux-intellectual snobbery that serves no purpose.
Oh and

Oooh I like wine, but I only know little about it. I buy cheapish wine (like $5-7 a bottle) and drink it. Try to pair properly.
I might do that touching the bowl thing, but I can learn from my mistakes.

I have a box of red wine, some cloves and dried orange peels. They will all be boiled together.

Yeah, buddy! I drink mulled wine (with chopped almonds and raisins) pretty much every day through december. It's alcohol free though, except on the 24th...

Hey BCBC, wanna hang out?
Gae, a lot of what comes from the Côtes du Roussillon region is pretty excellent and also dead cheap compared to the more renowned italian regions. I am a fan of the Château Saint Roch Chimères from the ones I've tried. It is a very "thin" taste though so if you are used to Sicilian Nero D'Avola you might not like it. But I'm fond of the brittle elegance.
I have a much harder time finding palatable whites at the same price points as reds, so I would guess that is a reason for the prejudice. graduating from the 6€ or less per bottle into the 6-12€ region has opened up a world. I really love the Luigi Baudana Dragon from the Langhe region. I want a pool full of that stuff.
Sparklings - Cava or Prosecco?

I just got offered the cork to sniff for the first time ever.
It's like a $8 bottle...
Mick, if you like a sweeter white, try a Moravian. Should be dirt cheap.

I'm prone to headaches, that sounds like the worst idea ever!
(I might try it anyway. I should also get to trying those sweet whites that are the pride of german winemakers.)

And also the whole no-red-with-fish-idiocy just shows you have no clue about fish. -> walk the plank!

I'm gonna check those. I think that a decent bottle rarely is under 10 euros. Than, it's easy getting great wines for 25-30 euros, but the good buyer is the one who finds good wines for 12-15 euros.
As far sparkling, not really something I love, but If I had to choose a good prosecco, above all.

Does buying wine pretty much only from Texas wineries land me on the guillotine?

Just make sure you don't actually boil your mulled wine / Glühwein / Gløgg / vin chaud. Then all of the alcohol evaporates.

I think it's okay to hold the glass by the bowl if you're cold blooded.
No wine conversation is complete without balancing out the field:
http://bumwine.com/, I remember projectile vomiting on my friends super expensive dictionary after an evening with Thunderbird.
I'll just show myself to the guillotine, thanks.

Yo if we're talking bum wines then I can chime in with so many bad stories. Bum wines are dark and absolutely hilarious days I'll never go to. I'm not sure if you can even get Cisco in Richmond anymore, maybe at shitty liquor stores outside of Richmond in Mechanicsville, at least thats the last place my friend bought it.
