^yep. I have up to 24 analog tracks in at a time for this reason (various taps off the rack, different amps with different options, etc).

Ok. So I found a really cheap SF twin reverb with a master volume. Do you think that'll be quiet enough for living room playing on 1 or 2 mv and then turning up the gain volume so it doesn't sound too weird?

Or have I just gone crazy and should just go back to looking at low watt stuff?

Can always try it out at low volume and see if it works for you.

You won't get anything but blisteringly clean out of that thing at anything short of arena volume though providing it's in good repair as a FYI.

But it's a phenomenal pedal platform.

You might have some luck trading that SF Twin to someone with a smaller Fender amp that needs more power. But if exactly what you need/want comes up for sale right after picking the Twin you'd be bumming.

True. I'm still really loving the way a Vibro Champ sounds, especially with a rat like in this video. I'm sure a Twin could get me a similar sound. There's just a lot of un-needed volume.

Fender amps and buzzy distortions. A+

There's a handful of nice silverface vibro champs on Reverb right now for around $500. I'd look through them and snag the best of the lot.

Also, because small amps seem to be the in thing for gigging musicians, you likely won't lose any money if you decide to get rid of it, you might even make a profit.

It's a strange world in which Princeton Reverbs fetch up to $1500, when the sold new for a fraction of that as a student model, and the Pro level Twins go for $500ish. But nobody wants the weight to haul, and the majority of the time you're mic'd, so you're not likely to have many opportunities to really unleash it.

Yeah that's one thing that'd be annoying: the weight. I found a nice Vibro Champ on ebay for $475 and this Twin is $500 firm. I'm leaning towards the VC I think. I feel like it'll be good enough for some dirt, some reverb, and delay.

Yea, I used a pair of Champs (didn't like the coloration of the vibe circuit and wanted that hair of extra headroom on the standard) for coffeehouse type gigs in the early 90s.

Now admittedly they were Coffeeshop Apocalypses with full on batshit insanery where we got noise complaints every single time..but...they did admirably with my ol' RE-301 Chorus Echo, HM-2, and Echoplex.

I thought it was the other way around and the vibro champ had slightly more headroom?

From what I've read, Vibro champ "breaks" earlier due to the extra gain stage in the vibrato circuit, tube included.

Interesting. I guess I should be looking at normal champs then. I just use pedals for dirt.

I don't think it would sound like a Marshall, I would get whatever SF Champ I found cheaper and in best condition.

My Diezel Herbert and 2x12 worked great for bedroom recording.

Yeah. I found a pretty nice Champ online for a little cheaper than the VC I was looking at. I don't really care for marshalls. I've always been a fan of silverface fenders.
