three pages without mention of Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper?? For shame. Also, the new Helm album is fantastic.

Ooh me too!

These days... a lot!

Their frontman came out as transgender and now goes by the name Laura Jane Grace, and is as badass as ever.

In 2007 they released New Wave and in 2010 White Crosses, both of which are super sugary, poppy, produced by Butch Walker. Some good songs but basically all the True Punx™ were completely up in arms and saw it as selling out

Last year they released Transgender Dysphoria Blues which is really good. Most of the songs are about the experience of being transgender and what that's like today. Super brutal lyrics but the songs are catchy as fuck. Way cleaner and tighter than Eternal Cowboy though! Very different band (it's been over a decade).

Here's my review of the album:

The new mewithoutYou is good but none of their albums will ever top Brother Sister for me.

Agreed

Everybody and their dog thinks Catch For Us The Foxes was better but I have always thought Brother Sister was the shit

I can hear this in my head right now in Aaron's droning voice

Foxes and Brother Sister are pretty much even in my head. They are both so, so excellent. It's All Crazy... is weirdly high up there for me, as well.

This is the first Sufjan record that's stuck for me. Superb stuff.
Yeah it's really good

Ever hear Seven Swans? This record is very much a sequel to that one, thematically and musically, too. I think it came out in 2004. For me it would be a tossup between that one and this one, as to which is his best album
Haven't heard Seven Swans. Will give it a listen. I always liked the Michigan record, but even that one was too-twee-by-half for me. And this coming from somebody who loves Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant.

But the new one just has the deep lyrical substance...

Jesus. Reminds me of some metalhead discussions. "This is totally blackened crust bro."

"NO WAY this is deathcore influenced crusty grind"

Brother, Sister is a sweet album and arguably the best lyrical content Aaron has delivered (havent listened to Pale Horses yet foe reference), but that thick haze that connects every song on Catch For Us the Foxes is my jam and can't be fucked with in my opinion. So much of the guitar playing is just textures and the bass/drum badassery they always have ties the album together perfectly. I used to be so indifferent to the album, too

Also, that Basinki album is really good. Nice find, Nora -- as per usual.
There's a bunch of Moon Duo albums for free on Amazon Prime if you have that.
