i haven't been here long enough to be able to talk fondly of the old days or play 'i remember when'.
but i think the internet (re feedback and forums and blogs etc) in general is going through a depressing reactive cycle at the moment, and (temporarily i'm sure) it has made the internet a bit tedious re just wanting to kick back and have fun.

basically i think we're going through an opposite reaction to all the chaos, insanity, abusiveness, etc, that accompanied the anonymity and freedom of the internet's initial boom. and that current opposite momentum is being driven by a depressing 'more-self-righteous-than-thou' mob, who are of the same mentality as the original trolls, but coming from a new direction. the kind of pricks who do the passive-aggressive thing. now instead of insulting you to make them feel better about themselves (that's too easy to see through, or get away with these days) they have evolved to trying to pick self-righteous holes in everything you want to say, so they can feel better than you that way. the new-puritan trip.
i have no time for them at all. they are the same negative douches that were douches ten years ago, or a new generation with the same negative attitude but a different way of expressing their negativity and inadequacies. same assholes, different day.

i think the crowning moment for these sort of assholes was the recent mars landing affair, when the scientist that landed an explorer probe thing on mars (a pretty impressive feat for anyone really and a huge technological achievement) instead of being met with worldwide applause and respect, ended up on the receiving end of a gang of douchey cunts calling him out because he was wearing a shirt they thought wasn't pc and soulless enough for them. the poor guy was reduced to tears.
i call the perpetrators of those particular attacks douchey cunts because to call them feminists would be to insult what feminism is supposed to be about.
but i don't doubt that they call themselves feminists, because in their minds claiming that allegiance then gives them license to say they are doing what they are doing for a cause, and not because they are inadequate cunts looking for someone to bully.
but it's all bullying by another name. pack-mentality bullying fuelled by closed-minded self-righteous group-think.

that's just one example. but the 'more-self-righteous-than-thou' mob are all over the web and should be regarded with nothing but the absolute contempt they deserve, and knocked back at every opportunity. indeed, strike twice for every strike you receive, and strike hard. for they are trying to make the interwebs a more restricted, censored and negative place.

i come here because i don't see it here yet. this seems to be a self-righteousness-free-zone, and long may it remain so.
though, as i said before, i haven't been here long enough to know if it has changed over the years.

But why? Why you ask? The answer is simple.

I honestly had no idea about the "sexist shirt" scandal.
IDK about ILF's history, so I'm not really equipped to speak on that.
But my old man was an early adopter of the WWW internet and had it in our household since 1994.
The majority of the internet used to be just text and some pictures shared on bbs and newsgroups. The only "PC" signified a computing platform. Live chat was a real luxury, and communities sprang up with common interests but diversity of ideas.
In this 20 years I've seen the jovial attitudes of wonder and adventure turn into misery, bitterness, contempt and resentment...seeking an outlet for anger and venom.
It was once a new frontier where cost and technology were prohibitive in good ways; it kept out a lot of the miserable riff raff that now roam the social media blogosphere.






Social media now attracts special interest cyber flash mobs of the self-righteous and sanctimonious to engage in witch hunts, where miserable fools cut down anything they disagree with under the guise of being offended...opening a can of worms wherever a hot-button issue can be pressed. Even bullied.
Now everything is highly scrutinized with a fine tooth comb, by the unreasonable and extremists; where fault is always the focus and contentious "loud online" people keep their faces buried in screens while opportunistically whoring for attention, and placing utmost importance on their own feelings. "Gotcha" type politics.

I now know of "tumblr feminists" who loudly "le sigh" about "le patriarchy" while tangentially monologuing and adopting the characteristics and attitudes being demonized in men.
Even if you believe in the equality of merit (which most logical people would concede) you're the enemy/opposition unless you cosign whatever extreme myopic nonsense is being preached by these aspiring fascists. And while not quite the same rabble rousers, babyboomers are even angrier.

Regardless of which undesirable character you encounter, you can bet they're always primed to be offended, which will be justified through fallacy; and other homogenous voices from their little echo chamber will pile-on for the shit show.
This is why insulating yourself and accessibility from these types of people is important to protect one's sanity and even livelihood. It's best to not sweat the small stuff like those little people...and pick your battles a bit more carefully...because extremism begets extremism. There WILL be pushback as intense if not more so, in this increasingly reactionary hyperbolic point in society.
