I'd like to have a bassist and a drummer and my friend on guitar, but every person we meet willing to join either flakes out or just wants to "jam" and not really be a band.
yep. i know the species and i hate them. they never seem to realise it's not only their time they are wasting.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to play music with people on a regular basis without being in a band, IMO. They're two very different things, and people that are cut out for one may not be cut out for another.

I would never want to be in a band with some of the people I jam with regularly, and I suspect the feeling is mutual, even though the musical connection is there in spades.
hey d.o.s.

to know your own mind and what you want is a very good thing. that means you are unlikely to say you are going to commit to a project then fanny around trying to decide if you can really be bothered at all, while everyone else depends on you to get it together. you are not in the class i was taking aim at. you are the kind i wish there were more of.

i was really referring to the ones who say they really want to be in a band, and who say they are really committed to making a project work... and then flake out, bail out and generally waste their time and everyone else's doing the exact opposite of showing any commitment whatsoever. which wouldn't be half the problem it is but for the fact these people generally don't have the foresight or decency to make those who are depending on them aware that they have lost interest. i think they are the ones ancient bones was expressing frustration about. and it is frustrating.

if you are not well, that's ok. it happens, we can work around that. if your sister is getting evicted, damn it, we'll cancel the rehearsal and all muck in to get her out quick and into somewhere else before the balifs arrive and start taking her things.
it's ok. life happens. i'm not saying there are not good reasons to not make practices, because there are a million.

i just have a problem with people who make promises and commitments without thinking about whether they really intend to keep them or not. sometimes these people can't help themselves, they don't like to say no. they want to be nice.
but no is definitely better than yes when you don't really know and other people will be depending on your yes. sincere is nice too.
