Had one of those for ages, it finally went up in smoke. Still have the MIDI floorboard, it'll outlive cockroaches.
You can get some wacky sounds and some godsawful terrible ones.
Yeah, I only had one super-fast run through the presets, mostly just checking that the thing powered up. Looking forward to careful explorations once I wrap up my current project (getting ready for an album release show coming up).
In the meantime, I did leave this with my guy for him to poke around the insides and see if a clock mod looks feasible.
Be sure you have him change the battery in it -it's a Z80 (ancient) microprocessor and volatile RAM - no flash memory on tap here.

Wisdom noted, merci!

So, lightning has struck twice! This one wasn't a freebie, but I got it very cheap from an acquaintance who was clearing out some space. He said he wrote a lot of his first album (which came out in 1993!) on this.
Yamaha TG55 Tone Generator, a16-bit sample playback based synth module.
Plugged it in, had to fiddle a bit before I realized my guy had it set to receive midi on channel 12 (something to do with the Atari ST he said he was using, maybe) but once that was sorted, it does the thing!
It has some deep (if not easy-to-access) programmability, but realistically, I'm be futzing with the stock presets for the foreseeable future.

It most certainly needs a new internal battery if you're having saving snafus etc
