I thin the EHX sounds better in this demo :idk: the klon's breakup sounds thin and fizzy to me but really I would still pick a SD-1 [granted I have a silver knob one :p ] over either going by this vid for those types of sounds.

It's hard to tell from that demo.

yep and that's the problem…. still the EXH has a better chance of getting used by the next Kurtlennon vs a real one

Yep, that's all true.

The sound quality on the demo (or most YouTube demos for that matter) wasn't very good and can only give the vaguest notion of what a pedal actually sounds like.

If it comes down to price, yeah, the EXH is always gonna win. They were conceived for two very different markets though.

Haven't tried an ARC, but I wanna.

From a purely cosmetic perspective, the newest ARC Klones look pretty good.

I dig this custom chrome one a lot:

I know. Hey I wish I could be happy with cheap mass-produced dirt  sometimes I think there is something wrong with us  but then I realize that it's EHX, Boss and MXR ect that are making all their dirt pedals wrong

I'll be the first to admit Bill Finnegan is more than a little bit of a snob, but the farther you get away from mass production, the less compromises have to be made.

That was the goal of this thread:

I have no idea what you're talking about, D.o.S., but on principle alone, I'd have to agree.
