hahaha well last time I looked (which was around when I sold mine) they were not readily available but showing up semi regularly and all at around $500.HeavyXIII wrote:I know everyone has a different conception of money, but I'd like to know where I can find these sub $600 VB-2sAncient Astronaught wrote:spend just a tiny bit more and get a Peavey VB-2..... very similar options as far as tubes, channels, etc but the peavey you know could drop down the grand canyon and still power up, and look better while doing it.

Agreed that things like concepts of money are entirely subjective and such. I would also add that opinions vary on what would be considered gig-worthy.
However, I have a hard time understanding how the difference between $229 and $500-600 (or more?) could be considered "a tiny bit more." Thats like double or triple the price.
poop.

A "tiny bit" may have been a poor choice of words, $500 is double the price but its still not an outrageous amount more, especially in the grand scheme of tube amps. When you look at the amount of $1000-2000 dollar plus amps out there a jump from $230 to $500 doesn't look too horrible.Jäke wrote:Ancient Astronaught wrote:... spend just a tiny bit more and get a Peavy VB-2...

Ya, I'll give you that. Still doesn't change the fact that I can't seem to find any second hand anywhereAncient Astronaught wrote:A "tiny bit" may have been a poor choice of words, $500 is double the price but its still not an outrageous amount more, especially in the grand scheme of tube amps. They were not real popular to begin with from what I can gather. And from my experience with one its because really it was just an insanely over powered guitar amp, it wasn't a bass amp. 6xEL34's putting out 225w? Fucking tasty, and LOUD. On bass though it felt lacking in the low end but had just enough power for stage use. Hence why I always say its more of a guitar amp than a bass amp. If I was going to build a Sunn O))) style wall it would be completely made up of VB-2's and Peavey M412 cabs......

That's crazy. They never really appealed to me but if I needed a backup tube amp I think they'd be one of the first options I reached for.

That's more or less the consensus our bassist arrived at after he finally ran his with an 810. Soft and tubey sounding, but once it hits the volume we play at it, its distorted as fuck. I should convince him to play his new Bass VI out of it, but dial it in more like a guitar amp. Might be a little crisper, the bass VI doesn't seem to push the lows like a normal bass does anyhow.Ancient Astronaught wrote:They were not real popular to begin with from what I can gather. Yup same issue I had for bass, but put it through a high sensitivity 4x12 for guitar and it sounds beast. The bass VI should sound much better through it than the bass for sure.HeavyXIII wrote:That's more or less the consensus our bassist arrived at after he finally ran his with an 810. i'm thinking if i ever wanted to kill myself by throwing a running tube amp in the bathtub with me, a bugera is probably what i'd want to use.

Yeah but it'd catch on fire when you went to throw it and you'd be immolated instead.misterstomach wrote:i'm thinking if i ever wanted to kill myself by throwing a running tube amp in the bathtub with me, a bugera is probably what i'd want to use.
